I love my job and get to learn all sorts of fascinating things about the companies or brands I work with. One of my recent projects led me to discover more about the lovely village I live in Burton Upon Stather, North Lincolnshire.
The local football club needed help redesigning its logo. They wanted a badge that had more of a connection to the village's history and already had a pretty clear idea of the elements they wanted it to contain but needed help putting it together. So what did I learn?
Burton Upon Stather has a rich history of shipping. It's one of the reasons the village exists, there has been a port here in some form since Roman times. John Wray & Son built ships on The Trent for more than a century and were known nationally for the quality they produced. Their most famous was a Barque called the 'Burton Stather' Launched in 1866 she sailed all over the world until she and her crew disappeared without a trace in 1876 reportedly somewhere off the coast of Queensland Australia. The updated badge features the 'Burton Stather' and the river she was built on, much more interesting than a generic footballer image.
I'm on the hunt for my next interesting project. Get in touch if you know where I might find it.
