Happy World Marketing Day to everyone currently juggling SEO, social media, emails, websites, Google updates, AI search and “just a quick one” requests 😅

SEO in 2026 looks very different to what most small businesses think it is.

It’s not just keywords, blog posts and hoping Google works its magic.

It’s about understanding:

• what your audience is searching for
• where they’re searching
• what they need in that moment

Because people don’t only search on Google now. They search on Instagram, TikTok, ChatGPT, marketplaces, YouTube and more.

But despite all the changes, the goal is still the same: Helping the right people find your business online.

I’ve broken down the basics below.

And if you want the deeper version, I’ve written a full blog here: https://lucyhoadmarketing.co.uk/what-is-seo/

My website is finally live, eeeek!!!

Only taken me about 8 years… which feels slightly ironic 😅

It’s been a work in progress for a long time, but I wanted it to properly reflect how I actually work - relaxed, clear, and focused on what really makes a difference.

If you’re a small business owner trying to get your head around SEO, Google Ads or your website, this is for you. I've even included some SEO blogs to get you started.

Have a look and let me know what you think.

Not every search ends in a click anymore… but that doesn’t mean it’s not working. 🧐

Is banning teenagers from social media actually helping… or just pushing it somewhere we can’t see?

I’ve been reading about the new trial around restrictions for under 16s (my 14 yo actually brought this to my attention) and I keep going back and forth on it.

Because the reality is, this generation don’t know any different. For them, social media has always been there. It’s how they talk to friends, keep up, make plans… basically live their lives.

So when we suddenly restrict it or take it away, what actually happens?

From what I’ve seen (and experienced 🙃), it doesn’t just disappear.

Fake accounts. Lying about age. Using other devices. It just changes how it shows up.

It’s easy to say it’s down to parenting, but we’ve been really on top of it at home and still had it backfire at times. Which makes me think this is bigger than that. It’s a social issue, not just a household one.

And then there’s the platforms themselves…

They can say they’re not responsible, but these apps are clearly designed to keep people on them.

Endless scrolling, constant notifications, everything built to hold attention.

So should more responsibility sit with them instead?

Things like proper age/ identify checks, limits on time spent, and more control over what content is actually being served.

This doesn't feel black and white. And I’m not convinced restrictions on their own are the answer either.

But I do think it’s a conversation worth having.

Would genuinely love to hear what others think - especially if you’ve got teenagers!

After a pretty rubbish start to the year, I’m easing myself back into a new normal.

Just checking in to say hi as I’ve been quiet for longer than usual. I’ve been busy with some lovely clients and a family trip to Anglesey - where a seagull stole my ice cream!

I can't believe we're already in March!

In other news… my website is almost ready. It’s only taken me about eight years! 🫣

Hope you’re all well. X

Hey. I’ve been a bit quiet on here...

You might have spotted some updates over the past few years about fundraising walks and challenges done with a brilliant group of friends and family - all inspired by my Dad, Julian.

Heartbreakingly, Julian passed away on New Year’s Eve.

Through both his work at Calm People and his personal journey, Julian supported so many people from organisations and leaders, to individuals navigating some of life’s hardest moments. Even while living with cancer himself, he made a conscious choice to keep showing up for others, sharing what he was learning, and focusing on hope, connection and living well.

That idea of choosing to show up is something I’ve been reflecting on a lot. Julian chose to be our Dad. He came into my life when my brother and I were young, and he never stopped showing up - even when life took different turns. That same sense of choice and commitment shaped our lives, just as it shaped the way he supported others through his personal life, work and beyond.

It felt right to share this, because Julian’s life, and the choices he made, mattered to more people than just those closest to him.

Thank you to everyone who supported the fundraising, followed his journey, or took something meaningful from his words.

He leaves behind a huge legacy of kindness, courage and quiet strength.

Me in my natural habitat (with a glass of fizz, not a laptop for once).

We’re back from two weeks in Spain, which was a mix of work, sea swims, steep hills, plenty of food and drink, Uno tournaments, and a cheeky 24 hours in Valencia with my husband that felt like a proper reset. I also bagged some epic Mango and Zara bargains! 👏

Back to inboxes now and slowly settling into the summer holiday juggle.

I’ve had a few lovely enquiries come through lately. I'm always so grateful when people think of me. I’m at full capacity now and not taking on any new work for the rest of the year, but if you ever want some quick website advice or a steer in the right direction, I’m always happy to help where I can. x

Yesterday was the first day of the school holidays and I already needed a run to clear my head.

Zero energy. Legs like lead. But I went anyway, and felt better for it.

The juggle is real right now. Uniforms to order before sizes vanish. Holiday club drop-offs. Teenager loitering. Holiday prep. Client work ticking along. And, of course, the pressure to make memories while I can.

We’re incredibly lucky, I know that, but summer holidays can still be chaos. Fun and full-on in equal measure.

So, if you’re already feeling a bit frazzled, this one’s for you. Deep breath. One thing at a time. And a little slack for yourself wherever you can.

No degree. Plenty of direction (eventually).

I didn’t go to university. Not because I couldn’t, I had places lined up to study social work, but deep down I knew it wasn’t the right path for me.

So I started working.

I took jobs, learned on the go, and found my way into marketing through a series of brilliant people who nudged me in the right direction.

But getting into the industry without a degree wasn’t easy.

There were a lot of glass ceilings. A lot of forms asking which uni I went to. And more than one occasion where I felt like I had to prove I belonged in the room.

Fast forward a few years… and I was giving a talk to the marketing students at Derby Uni, alongside running an internship programme for their students.

That was a bit surreal.

(Especially when they asked what university I went to and I had to say… “I didn’t.”)

I’m not against degrees, they open doors and give people confidence, and they’re absolutely right for some. But I do believe experience counts for more than we give it credit for. Especially in industries where curiosity, initiative, and people skills matter.

So no, I don’t have a degree. But I do have 18 years of graft, Google updates, happy clients, and the kind of hands-on experience no textbook ever taught me.
