Original Magazine Volume.3 Maschine - “explores the evolving relationship between art and technology, examining how digital tools, artificial intelligence, and emerging systems are reshaping the ways contemporary artists conceptualise, develop, and produce their work.

At the heart of the print lies a broader curatorial question: Can art and technology meaningfully coexist, and what new creative possibilities emerge when these two fields intersect?”

INSIDE FASHION WEEK — Marie Claire Netherlands Marie Claire NL Marie Claire

Last season took me from London to Paris, working backstage and experiencing Fashion Week from the other side of the curtain.

The early call times, the chaos backstage, the last-minute changes, the after-parties, and the people who make it all happen. It’s intense, fast and sometimes stressful, but ultimately I love what I do!

We all work together to create something memorable.

Grateful to Marie Claire Netherlands for having me as part of Inside Fashion Week and for giving me the opportunity to share a little insight into the reality behind the shows.

London → Paris. More to come.

LONDON & PARIS

Last season took me from London to Paris working Fashion Week in both cities and experiencing them from behind the scenes.

There’s something special about arriving somewhere you once visited as a tourist, now as a professional, surrounded by the people and teams making the shows happen.

Full write up (translated) “Last season, I worked on a few shows in London and, for the first time, also in Paris. It was special to be there as a professional rather than as a tourist. In the lead-up, I emailed people I had worked with previously to ask if I could assist — fashion houses, make-up artists and hairstylists. I also started posting more of my work on social media to gain extra exposure. You have to keep documenting and sharing your work in order to attract clients.

It’s a shame that London, as a fashion city, is losing some of the rebellious reputation it had in the past. British fashion houses such as Vivienne Westwood and McQueen now show in Paris. I hope the energy will change again, and that young underground designers such as Leo Prothmann and Jean Louie Castillo will bring it back.

I loved creating the wet-look hair for the LCF (London College of Fashion) show. Vogue Runway wrote about it, which was amazing. It was a little nerve-racking when one of the models, who had very dry skin, walked onto the runway like that for the rehears

Let’s reintroduce…
Hair & make-up artist, creative director and image maker.

My work sits somewhere between fashion, beauty, art and storytelling, using hair, makeup, photography, colour and concept to create images that make you look twice.

I’m interested in the strange, the beautiful, the uncomfortable and everything in between. I want to challenge the idea of what beauty can look like and create work that feels like more than just a picture.

From assisting backstage to leading teams during Fashion Week, from London to Paris, I’m building a practice that brings all of my influences into one place.

This is CALLUM OLVER.

And this is only the beginning.

Hi everyone,

I’ve debated setting this up for a while because asking for financial help isn’t something that comes naturally, but its become the final option to resort to right now.

A few weeks ago I was the victim of a homophobic assault which resulted in a serious facial fracture and surgery. Since then, life has been pretty overwhelming, both physically and mentally.

I’m self-employed and work in the fashion industry, so taking time away from work has had a direct impact on my income. I’ve only managed to work once or twice since my surgery and, honestly, I’ve felt quite anxious and not really myself when I’ve tried to get back into it.

The mental side of everything has probably been the hardest part. I’m struggling with my mood and energy and have found myself feeling very overwhelmed by everything that’s happened. I’m starting therapy soon and I’m hoping that, with the right support and some time, things will gradually start to feel a bit more normal again.

I even took myself away to Turkey for a short time because I felt like I desperately needed to get away from everything, clear my head and look after my mental health. Unfortunately, I still struggled while I was away and came home to the reality of rent, bills, work and everything else that has built up.

The financial pressure is now adding another layer of stress. Because I’m self-employed, not being able to work normally means there’s no regular income to fall back on or sick pay. I’m currently behind on my rent and have other expenses and debts that have built up while I’ve been recovering.

I’ve been trying to deal with everything properly. I’m in contact with Universal Credit, Citizens Advice, my GP and my local council and I’m looking into every form of support available to me. Unfortunately, there isn’t a huge amount of immediate financial help available through Universal Credit, so I’m trying to bridge the gap while I recover and get myself back to work.

I’m not setting this up to make money from what happened to me. I’m setting it up because right now I need a little bit of breathing room as im not sure what to do.
