And the emperor replied "whoever can hold on to the Guru's cloak can be released..."

On this condition, the Guru had a cloak made with 52 strands on to which each other prisoner could hold and walk out of the fort. And, in doing so, the Guru secured the release of their fellow inmates, the 52 Kings. Today we welcome back and celebrate the return of the Guru - with their poignant stand and legacy that we Sikhs reflect upon each year.

Bandi Chor Diwas also falling on the day of Diwali. Celebrating Guru Hargobind Ji (The Sixth Guru). The word "Bandi" means "imprisoned", "Chor" means "release" and "Divas" means "day" and together "Bandi Chor Divas" means Prisoner Release Day.
