I often discuss cost per wear with my clients in their colour, style and full image consultations. So what does this mean?

We’ve all bought that "bargain" sweater that sits in the wardrobe with the tags on because it makes us look washed out. In finance, they call this a sunk cost. In fashion, it’s the Bad Colour Tax.

The true value of a garment is measured by Cost Per Wear (CPW).

A £200 coat you wear every day costs pennies over time. A £15 "final sale" shirt that drains the life from your face costs infinite pounds because you'll never wear it.

Colour Analysis is more than a makeover; it’s a financial filter. When you know your palette, you stop "guessing" when you’re shopping. You eliminate impulse buys that don't love you back and ensure every penny spent contributes to a high-use, high-ROI (return on investment) wardrobe.

The Bottom Line: Think like an accountant. Stop wasting money on "cheap" mistakes. Invest in your palette once, and never pay the Bad Colour Tax again.

We are experiencing more intense heatwaves and it can be a challenge keeping cool. Wise choices of clothing and fabrics can really help.

⭐️ Natural fabrics such as cotton, linen, bamboo and lightweight viscose will help keep us cool in hot weather and are ideal choices.

💜 Synthetic fabrics such as viscose, polyester, acrylic, rayon and elastane retain heat and moisture so are better avoided during heatwaves.

⭐️ Wearing looser fitting clothing rather than tight fitting clothing will feel much more comfortable but always remember to balance the clothing lines to complement your height, scale, proportions and body shape.

💜 Lighter coloured fabrics will reflect the sun better so opt for lighter colours in your colour palette for hotter summer days.

Polka dots are as popular as ever as a timeless classic that never dates. There is a polka dot for everyone. When choosing a polka dot pattern, choose your best colour, particularly for the background colour and remember that contrast plays a huge part. If you have a strong look, you can wear contrasting colours but if you have a blended look, try more tonal colours. Be mindful of the size of the spot … think about your frame. Smaller, neat polka dots work well on small frames whilst larger dots on larger frames.

Pantone Colour of the Year 2026, Cloud Dancer is a very strong feature of Spring/Summer collections offering a fresh, modern and chic look. Remember to opt for your shade of white whether that be soft white, ivory, cream or pure white. Lights can combine white with another light colour effortlessly. Deeps, Warms, Cools and Clears will look best combining white with a medium depth to deeper or stronger colour whilst Softs will look fabulous combining white with another neutral to create a tone-on-tone look.

Wardrobe dilemmas ….

Last week, the weather felt more like early Spring - out came the light knitwear to warm up. This week, we have had the hottest heatwave on record for May! It can certainly be a dilemma planning our wardrobes for the very changeable weather we are experiencing these days.

In changeable climates, we need a winter wardrobe, in between season wardrobe and summer wardrobe, including workwear and a personal and/or social wardrobe! This can seem like hard work and lead to a bulging wardrobe and then not knowing what to wear each day!

Building a capsule wardrobe is the answer! With neutrals as the basis of your wardrobe such as for trousers, shorts and skirts you can add interest choosing tops, blouses, shirts and knitwear in your fashion colours. The result? A cohesive capsule wardrobe where multiple outfits co-ordinate effortlessly every day for the changeable, and sometimes extreme, weather we experience. And my top tip for negotiating the changeable weather is layering - cotton tops with cardigans, dresses with cardigans or a denim jacket for an extra layer. And always remember a reliable rain jacket and umbrella, just in case!

Get in touch if you need help organising your wardrobe - my Wardrobe Edit is just the service for you! My colour consultation will inform you which best shades to go for and my style consultation will teach you how to wear the correct styles of clothes to suit your height, scale, proportions and body shape.

We can now look forward to warmer longer days and enjoy wearing our summer dresses again. A summer dress is a staple in our wardrobes, whether in a plain block neutral or accent colour or with a beautiful floral design. When choosing a dress for summer, consider your style personality and invest in a style that complements this aspect of your personal image. For example,

💜 Creatives will enjoy a vintage dress

⭐️ Dramatics will love a dress in a statement accent colour and style

💜 Romantics will love pretty floral patterns with frills, bows and ruffles

⭐️ Classics will prefer a classic shape that is timeless and easy to wear year after year

💜 Naturals will want a dress in a simple style that is easy to put on and she can wear with flat shoes such as trainers or ballet pumps

⭐️ City Chics will chose a style that is current and in one of her neutral colours, that is timeless and elegant.

With the temperatures set to soar over the next few days, it's time to get your sunglasses ready. When buying new sunglasses (and glasses) it can be overwhelming knowing which style to go when there is so much choice.

I always advise my clients to choose a frame opposite their face shape. Generally, angular styles balance a round face, while rounder shapes soften a square jawline and forehead.

For colour, trust your swatch wallet. There are so many fun shades in there! And as for metals, match these to your skin’s undertone – silver for cool tones, and gold for warm.

And remember to choose a style, shape and colour that suits your style personality so you feel completely yourself wearing them.
