IT’S NOT AN LS!

A Chevy restomod fitted with an EFI equipped V8 that isn’t an LS? What sorcery is this?!

The TPI (Tuned Port Injection) engine fitted to our 1955 Apache Pick Up is a member of the huge and diverse family of Small Block V8s produced by Chevrolet. Arriving in 1985 in either 305ci/5.0 litre form as here or as a 350ci/5.7 litre, the TPI marked Chevrolet’s first successful use of electronic fuel injection, this paving the way for the more comprehensively managed engines that followed in later years.

While often overshadowed by the later LS family, its use of technology to achieve cleaner performance is often seen as the beginning of a return to power after emissions legislation had gradually restricted the outputs of the earlier carburettor engines. The TPI has a distinctive appearance in the engine bay, dominated by the huge central plenum and the long intake runners that give the engine its excellent low down torque.

If the idea of a Chevy Pick Up with something a bit different lurking within appeals to you, feel free to drop us a DM, give us a call on 07968169621 or send an e-mail to [email protected]

SOLD!

A deal was agreed and a deposit taken on the 1958 Triumph Twenty One approximately 27 hours after it was listed, so frustratingly we just missed out on "sold in a day" bragging rights! That is, however, of little importance compared to the fact it's been safely rehomed with a local enthusiast who fully intends to get out and enjoy it regularly. She's even promised to bring it to our Car And Bike Night occasionally so we may yet meet it again...

1967 Morris Minor Traveller

Introduced in 1953, the Traveller was a two door estate development of the already well established Morris Minor range. It remained in production until 1971 and both during its production lifetime and in the years since, this half timbered little car established itself as one of the true icons of British motoring.

Arriving in the world in 1967, DTF 194E got very busy very quickly and was already showing 53,000 miles when it passed to its second and current owner in December 1969. The pace slackened somewhat under the new ownership but by the late 1970s 90,000 miles had been covered and the engine was starting to protest, this being duly replaced by a factory reconditioned Gold Seal unit. The car has remained in regular use since then, albeit with annual mileages steadily dropping, and has now covered approximately 135,000 miles.

The car remains in its original colour scheme of Rose Taupe over a red interior. While both the inside and outside of the car definitely show signs of its long and active life, there is no doubt it has been cared for. In addition to the aforementioned replacement engine, later converted to run on unleaded fuel, a comprehensive history file attests to regular servicing and repair work as required.

As presented now, the Morris provides a potential new custodian with options as to how to enjoy it. It is a fully usable, albeit cosmetically tired, proposition as it is and could carry on for while yet on simple care and maintenance. Alternatively, it could become a rolling restoration with fettling being interspersed with continued use. Finally, should a buyer be looking for a base for a rebuild, without the full hardcore experience of starting from a wreck in a barn, this car could serve well in that role. One car, many choices for whoever becomes only its third owner since 1967…

There is no doubt our 1967 Morris Minor Traveller carries some serious patina, the very genuine visible signs of a long and busy life. However, having been in the same ownership since 1969 and possessing a healthy history file attesting to its ongoing care, it certainly isn't without its qualities. It is a car that will give its new owner freedom to choose how they proceed. It could be enjoyed as is and simply maintained, it could become a rolling restoration and improved over time, or it could the basis of a nut and bolt rebuild. What would you do? 🤔

COMET SKY SHIELD!

While many of the non-standard parts on our 1940 Chevrolet Special Deluxe Coupe are both relatively modern and cunningly concealed, there is one that is both a genuine period original and proudly on display. Above the windscreen sits an original Peckat Comet Sky Shield sun visor, a rare item that is still in excellent condition.

External sun visors were a feature of cars, particularly in America, from the relatively early days of motoring. While their popularity waxed and waned over time, the 1950s arguably being their zenith, they remained a common fixture well into the 1960s. With a touch of art deco in its design, the Sky Shield visor fits well with the Chevrolet’s smooth 1940s styling, a slightly more restrained period before Detroit’s more flamboyant adventures of the following decade.

Another new arrival incoming. A 1967 Morris Minor Traveller that has spent virtually its whole life with one owner. It's covered a lot of miles and done a lot of work in that time, facts it makes no attempt to hide cosmetically, yet this doughty old workhorse is certainly not done yet. Lots more info to come shortly...

1957 BSA Bantam D3 Major 150cc

Arriving in 1948 as BSA’s take on the distinctly German DKW RT125, the Bantam nevertheless succeeded in establishing itself as thoroughly British and became a strong contender in the lightweight class right up until production ended in 1971.

Bantams were produced in many varieties encompassing different engine sizes, numbers of gears, rear suspension designs etc. Arriving in 1954, the D3 Major used an enlarged 148cc engine. This 1957 example is in standard road trim and benefits from the swinging arm rear suspension that became standard in 1956, although at this relatively early stage BSA still only provided three gears.

Starting out as a local machine – it still wears its original “Reed-Knowles (Crediton) Ltd.” supplier’s plaque on the rear light bracket - the bike has been in the family of its current custodian for over thirty years. During that time it has been the subject of a cosmetic restoration and has had mechanical work carried out as and when required. The end product is a motorcycle that presents well and is in good running order. Bantams as a breed should always be on the radar of someone looking for a “starter” classic, but this one should also be of interest to those looking for a machine to prepare to true show standard.
