We’ll shortly be announcing the launch of a new website for a local based business, and it’s more than just a fresh design.

They hadn’t received a single lead or enquiry from their old website and over 95% of the were sitting empty (word of mouth and people driving by and seeing the signage had filled the rest).

We started by helping them with website hosting and gaining control of their own domain name and email account. This means going forward, they are now fully in control.

Our attention then turned to their current 1-page website which didn’t have the correct SEO. We feel, especially in a competitive marketplace, that it’s always better to have more pages.

The aim is to have dedicated pages for products or services, able to rank independently, and potentially some location landing pages, to enable you to get found in the areas you wish to be found in.

So, we rebuilt their current WordPress website, using Elementor, with a focus on:
🍇 A clear UX journey and URL page structure that guides users to take action
🍇 More pages to get them found for a variety of storage search terms
🍇 Location landing pages to extend their reach
🍇 Mobile‑first layouts and fast load speeds
🍇 Schema, excerpts, meta and image SEO
🍇 Flexibility for the business to scale and grow easily

A website shouldn’t just exist, it should work for your business, it’s your 24/7 sales team.

If your website isn’t supporting your business goals, it may be time to rethink how it’s built;

Thank you Biz Comm for a great night at Crystal Palace Football Club, Selhurst Park Stadium. It’s always great to support local charities, learn more about what they do and help them to raise funds.

Good to see some familiar faces there; Rajan Amin, Ash Kamat, Helen Colechin, Anna Young, Sam Ma, Zoe Parker, David Frederick, Rebecca Grima, Chandra Sharma, Saffron Saunders, Simon Annis, Jonathan Docksey, Edua Effiom, Susan Wright, Jane Rogers, Ally Whitlock, Ben Holmes, Paul Spencer and James Broomfield. And great to make some new connections too.

Thank you to Joanne Bennett from the The Chartwell Cancer Trust for inviting us. It was interesting to hear about some of the projects they have worked on past and present;

🤖 AV1 Robot – provided to young cancer patients, helping them stay connected to school and their friends while undergoing treatment.
🏠 Sophies Wish – a holiday lodge on the Isle of Wight providing a sanctuary for families living with cancer to escape to and make happy memories.
❤️ Support – financial support for families facing hardship and emotional support through community groups where families can connect and share experiences.

Their next challenge is to raise funds for much needed equipment at The Tiger Ward - Queen Elizabeth Hospital - in Woolwich, enabling them to offer a dedicated Infusional Chemotherapy Suite to the local community. If you’re able to help, please do.

Congratuations also to the other charities involved - Lives Not Knives, ABC Book Club and Quest Soul Theatre C.I.C.

It’s been a busy week of networking here at Black Grape.

Samantha Larcombe attended the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) Spring Boot Camp, which is the first event we have been to since joining. She met Ally Whitlock and Felicity Taylor, who were also first timers there, and it was good to see Rachel Barham, who spoke about the membership benefits, some of which we have already used. It was also great to catch-up with Chandra Sharma, Emma Meheux and Jane Rogers.

The line up of speakers and the panel discussion was great and Mayor also popped in. It was good to chat to Tanya Moody afterwards and we will also be in contact with one of the exhibitors from Zoom Films UK, to see how we can work together going forward.

Claire McCall attended , which was held at . The event gave everyone a greater insight into how taking on an apprentice can benefit both your business and the apprentice. Susanette Mansour hosted a panel discussion with Brian Duffus, PumpServ and their apprentice Ethan.

Whilst she was there, she helped Ash Kamat with the videography for the event, (even if she was in everyone's way). Running Connecting Croydon is all hands-on-deck for the team to make each event happen. (Rajan Amin, Rachel Stoyle, Jo Whittaker, Tanya Sinclair).

She also managed to catch-up with a few local Croydon business owners she hadn’t seen for a while including David Sheehan, Paul Richardson, Kat Gunn, Ben Holmes and Ian Tyler, to name a few.

Back to the day job now.

When we start working with a new client, we always look at their Google Business Profile.

Not only is it often the first impression potential customers have of your brand, and we all know first impressions count, but when fully optimised, your profile helps your business:

☑️ Show up in local searches when customers are ready to buy
☑️ Build instant trust through real customer reviews
☑️ Free constant visibility that drives real actions
☑️ Compete internationally by appearing credible and professional

🍇 Customer reviews play a huge role. They act as social proof, influence buying decisions, and signal to Google that your business is active and trustworthy, which in turn boosts your visibility in search results.

If you would like us to design a Google Review card for your business, to help you capture Google reviews easily, let us know. We’ve done this for a few other clients.

🍇 Adding your services and locations ensures customers (and Google) clearly understand what you offer and where you operate. This means better targeting, more relevant leads and fewer missed opportunities. We find this is often overlooked.

🍇 Regular updates, posts and events keep your profile fresh and engaging. Google rewards active profiles and customers love seeing what’s new, whether it’s a promotion, launch or upcoming event. Often people will post these types of things on social media but totally forget about their Google Business Profile.

A neglected Google Business Profile costs visibility, trust and sales. An optimised one works for your business 24/7, especially if it works in line with your website.

If you’re not treating your Google Business Profile as a key marketing asset, it’s time to start, let’s talk;

🔹 Pure B2B Mastermind – we had a lovely lunch at The Surprise in . Over lunch we shared insightful conversations, challenges and practical ideas that we could all take straight back to our businesses. Thank you so much Anna Young and Joanne Bell from Accountants for inviting us. It was a really interesting meeting.

🔹 Connector - Women’s Networking Event – we shared a fun and supportive evening in with some truly inspirational women. Too many to mention here, but we would like to say thank you to Veshali Patel from Advisory Services for inviting us. We will be joining you again one day soon.

🔹 Soup – we also supported our good friend and Connecting Croydon colleague Brian Duffus in his bid to raise money for his next big idea for Community Foundation and Unity Junction. We were so excited for him when he won the prize pot.

Networking isn’t just about exchanging business cards, or LinkedIn connections, it’s about building trust, sharing knowledge and supporting each other’s growth. January’s been a great reminder of that.

A big thank you to everyone we met and connected with. We’re looking forward to continuing the conversations and seeing what the rest of the year brings.

If we didn’t get a chance to speak, feel free to reach out.

✔ Easy to share anywhere

You can use it to;
✔ Email it to prospects
✔ Send it via WhatsApp or social DMs
