Something happens when a fine art print is small enough to hold. You hear the sound of the paper, feel its weight and texture, control the angle at which the light falls and reflects. You become the curator of your own encounter with the work.

These Artist Cards for Facundo Bustamante carry the same attention and archival care as our large-format work - printed on Hahnemühle Agave 290 gsm with Epson UltraChrome Pro 12 pigment inks. The scale changes. The quality of the image persists.

A miniature portfolio, a small edition, or a way to let someone else into the work.

What a joy to have worked on this.

Artist Nicola Moxham booked a print residency with Lucid ahead of her show at The Pyrotechnic’s, Nunhead - opening tomorrow.

We talked through her practice, the urgency and intention behind the work, and what each image needed to say. We made test prints across different papers, looking carefully at how surface and tone shaped the feeling of each piece. Nicola made her choices and then left the rest with us.

She had a clear intention for how she wanted the work to land. I suggested a finishing approach that felt right - something to add a physical dimension to the surface and shift how light moves across the print. She trusted us to make it happen. I made the prints and Michael helped mount them after she had gone.

What you see here is the result. Raised surfaces. Light refracting across the work. Prints that hold presence in a room.

I would love to know how you see this work - what do you find in it? Tell me in the comments.

This is the kind of collaboration Lucid is built for. If you are an artist, photographer or gallery thinking about what your prints could be - beyond the expected - come and have that conversation.

Guy Dickinson’s full-bleed split-tone Piezography® Pro print on Awagami Bizan Medium White washi is an invitation to engage. The synergy of work and print is visceral, affective - designed to draw you in, to traverse its surface and encounter the quiet chaos that demands tracing, following.

This print is an experience. The tension between viewer and image becomes palpable, the affect undeniable.

Delving deeper into the paper surface when the natural fibres lift during printing.

Fascinating seeing these microscopic mulberry fibres magnified and their meshed structure engaging with the pigmented ink.

Let’s see what I can do with this next…

Preparing some special prints for an upcoming exhibition on Awagami Unryu Thin 55 gsm Washi. Our first step is to make a Lucid Imaging custom profile in-house using the X-Rite iO3. The charts are printed today and will be read tomorrow ready to make these custom profiles for our new Epson SC-P5300.

Will share more about the exhibition prints being made on this paper in due course.

When you put everything into making a piece of art and it leaves for the next destination, you’re left with a mass of material, memory and time to replay over again all you did and didn’t do to make it. Full of emptiness until the next.

This is the after mass: remains of texture.

This piece has been developing over a few months through a collaboration between me and György Englert. My role was to take György’s vision, working from his clean Photoshop file, and bring it into the physical world on a paper that would resonate.
We tested several papers: matte, glossy, satin and washi. We were both drawn to how the image settled on Hahnemühle Photo Rag® Satin 310 gsm. As we moved around the print, the surface revealed shifting depth and texture beyond geometry and form. It felt grounded, almost alive.

Then came the twist. The very quality we admired in the paper - its gentle iridescence - began to interfere with the piece. In darker areas, the highlight bloom tipped toward red, pulling attention away from the image. After a series of adjustments and test prints, I balanced the tones so we could keep the depth and remove the unwanted red shift.
The final stage was applying a protective coating to prevent the receptive layer taking on moisture, as this piece will be mounted and tray framed, unglazed, by Hawkins Framing.
Now it is mounted and ready. I am looking forward to seeing it finished with a beautiful wood profile by Hawkins.
