Congratulations to French artist Franz Galo on the opening of New Territories, his debut solo show at Gallery 55.

Today, you can see the show and attend the artist talk from 11:00 - 12:00.

The dedication behind the scenes to show this incredible curation of works saw Michael and I put everything into ensuring the artist’s vision and intentions were achieved while he was away.

We meticulously made 28 beautiful prints in collaboration with Franz where every last detail was considered. Franz trusted me to do what I do with split-toning in Piezography® Pro - intuitively toning the image through looking and translating that vision into the physical print. Michael mounted the prints to aluminium and aluminium composite material (ACM), before packing and delivering to Jack Carvosso for framing and finishing, his elite workmanship, design and attention to detail in every piece.

For me, the success is observing others engaging with and making their own relationships with the work, seeing the artist immersed in the din of their guests, simultaneously in their own quiet realising their work becoming the intentions they had set out and more. The red dots next to the works translates to collectors who have been moved by the vision - enough to let others in to experience the same. This is the work, this is part of the why - we are still making prints that resonate.

Collaborating with artists develops my thinking and printmaking practice. DG03 Collective + Guests showed Human:being at Copeland Gallery from 20 to 23 August.

Tzion Essel has been making prints with Lucid since his MA and introduced us to Crispin Day, formerly Professor of Clinical Psychology at King’s College London and now undertaking doctoral research in photography at University of the Arts London.

Tzion and Crispin describe the collaboration best:

“At the time of the MA, everything was last minute. I wasn’t sure on how I wanted to display my works and in what format. Since we worked together initially for the MA grad exhibition, I’ve always come back to Lucid as they helped answer those questions and far in advance to make sure everything was prepared on time and to my liking. They’ve helped me think of my work with print in mind, and it is now the final part of the creative process for me.” Tzion Essel.

“I had a pretty good idea of how I wanted to show the images I initially shared with Denise. But oh how this changed over the remarkable journey we undertook together. A key aspect of this was Denise’s sheer belief and generous enjoyment of my work underpinned by her deep knowledge, extraordinary expertise and sparkling creativity. This body of work, for me, oscillates between the physicality of absent spaces. The ceramic vessels invite a dialogue into the somatic body. Their cast shadows appear intentionally present as part of the body. The different techniques and materials used presents as affective textures, densities and glazes that feed into how the ceramics transcends the space between the paper collage.

I felt a tacit connection between the paper collage and the ceramic vessels. Searching to pin that connection, it remained free and unconstrained.

The sense of weight, density and air becomes present as I stood before the precious paper collage pieces.

This is more than a gift of talent, it is dedication, consistency, research, creative and technical studies, technical skill and process development, creation and so much more from the artist.

Again, for me, this exhibition, has culminated in an eclipse and elevation of the artist’s practice.

Congratulations to Hannah Hughes for a magnificent exhibition opening.

Here I’m at Lucid on a Sunday making more Fusio studies working with an image by artist, Shamani Surendran, made as a split toned Piezography® Pro K5 print. Inspired by Chine Collé, the results and connecting with me on a physical level. As I move around the print, it shifts, invites, refuses. The next stage of study, may completely fail, however, I feel it needs to be done. Making these studies is literal play and I’m loving it.

Delighted to collaborate with Lucy again, this time on her forthcoming joint exhibition in Essen, Germany. It’s been quite a journey for us both with our increasingly busy schedules - Lucy as a guest speaker at RA last week and me, collaborating with several artists. Please keep an eye on the comments for more info from Lucy.

This piece is a mini Piezography® Pro K4 constructed triptych on Awagami Bizan Natural Medium washi based on a larger 3x A2 piece. To achieve the ratio required, I have trimmed and deckled the Washi using my own developed technique.

Yesterday we went a bit outside of our wheelhouse for this one making double-sided lanyard cards for a sane day Box Park event.

These cards were made using Hahnemühle Baryta FB 350 gsm. Our trusted workhorse Epson SC-P20500 shredded through these prints in a fraction of the time it took our Canon Pro-1100 (sloooowest) and Epson SC-P5300 to print one single side. The client requested 400 gsm. Making use of what was in stock, Denise made a treat print for the client in Hahnemühle Baryta FB. Once approved, Michael nipped off-site to retrieve our hole drill and corner punch. The rest was graft to get them complete and delivered to Box Park for the England Game.

Now back to fine art printmaking for photographers, artists and galleries.

What a joy to have worked on this.

Artist Nicola Moxham booked a print residency with Lucid ahead of her show at The Pyrotechnic’s, Nunhead - opening tomorrow.

We talked through her practice, the urgency and intention behind the work, and what each image needed to say. We made test prints across different papers, looking carefully at how surface and tone shaped the feeling of each piece. Nicola made her choices and then left the rest with us.

She had a clear intention for how she wanted the work to land. I suggested a finishing approach that felt right - something to add a physical dimension to the surface and shift how light moves across the print. She trusted us to make it happen. I made the prints and Michael helped mount them after she had gone.

What you see here is the result. Raised surfaces. Light refracting across the work. Prints that hold presence in a room.
