Have you ever seen a post where the caption ends with "Image description" and a recap of what you're seeing in the image? Do you know what it means?
Interestingly, a few people this week have told me that it's being confused as a ChatGPT prompt and makes people think that the image is AI-generated.
It's got nothing to do with AI - it's all about humans!
Visually impaired people use screen readers to consume content on social media and they can only read image descriptions. If you don't add Alt Text to your content, screen readers will either not read it at all or get an AI-generated description. Adding that description to the caption as well adds that extra level of accessibility.
I might start changing my captions to read "Screen reader image description" instead - but it's crazy to me that we've become more aware of signs of AI than signs of accessibility!
Have you noticed this before? Did you know it was for accessibility?
