International renowned Blues Singer Songwriter Richard Townend was so thrilled by the welcome he received in the North East this year, that he is again returning this weekend for three special shows in Sunderland, Darlington and Durham.

Essex based Richard Townend whose musical achievement include a recent signing of a worldwide record distribution deal and having the number one album on the IBBA (Independant Blues Broadcaster Association) in December 2015 - thinks the North East is a big hit for musicians. Following in the footsteps of his North East musical heroes Mark Knopfler and Chris Rea - Richard will be playing:

- The ‘Speakeasy’ at the Harbour View Pub, Roker, Sunderland on Thursday 16th June - 8.30pm
- The Voodoo Cafe, Skinnergate, Darlington on Friday 17th June - from 7pm Free Entry
- Durham Blues Festival at the Gala Theatre Durham on Saturday 18th June on stage at 7pm.

Richard said: “I am delighted to be coming back to the North East - the welcome is always so friendly and people here really know their music. The region has a rich heritage in terms of its music but also for its excellence in songwriting - from Dire Straits to Lindisfarne and everything in between.

Richard will be joined at the Darlington - Voodoo Cafe by local bluesman Gary Grainger form Newton Aycliffe and host of the BishopFM Blues Show. Richard and Gary will each play a set and will also perform for the first time together as a duo.

In Sunderland, Richard is performing at the special invitation of local bluesman George Shovlin at his New York style ‘Speakeasy’ club.

Richard has a very extensive presence in the Blues and Americana music scene - his work as a solo performer and with his band The Mighty Bosscats can be seen on Youtube here: https://www.youtube.com/user/themightybosscats
