I have absolutely no reason to get ready this week… which is exactly why I need to.

No client calls.
No meetings.
No real reason to leave the house.

Which is exactly how a work-from-home slump starts.

Because it’s very easy to go from:
ā€œI’ll just have a chill morningā€
to
ā€œI haven’t brushed my hair and it’s 3pm.ā€

So I’ve decided I’m getting ready properly every day this week.
Outfit. Makeup. The works.

Not for content.
Not for anyone else.
Just to feel like a functioning human being.

One thing I’ve learnt since working for myself is that no one is there to create structure for you.

No one’s noticing if you:
stay in joggers all day
work from the sofa
slowly lose all sense of routine

But you feel it.

And it shows up in your motivation, your focus, and eventually… your mood.

Running a business from home sounds like freedom (and it is),
but it also comes with a lot of ā€œit’s up to you now.ā€

So this week’s goal?
Act like I have somewhere to be… even when I don’t.

A little peek into what I’ve been helping clients with recently…

No two weeks ever look the same in this job, but lately that’s included:

āœ”ļø setting up and coordinating a brand new WhatsApp community
āœ”ļø creating a website landing page (with a big focus on branding and customer journey)
āœ”ļø building a full online journey for a campaign - order forms, automated emails, spreadsheets and conversion tracking
āœ”ļø planning and curating the social media presence for a product launch
āœ”ļø launching a brand new e-commerce print-on-demand website
āœ”ļø enabling online bookings through a client’s CRM system
āœ”ļø having a review session with a client to figure out how I can take even more off their plate

Basically a mix of strategy, systems, tech, content and a bit of problem solving along the way.

And this week I’m kicking off a whole new Shopify project which I’m very excited about.

One of my favourite parts of what I do is that I get to slot into different businesses and help with whatever they actually need - whether that’s big projects, ongoing support, or just untangling their marketing systems a bit.

Never a dull moment over here.

You know the jobs I mean:

• Social media manager
• Content creator
• Campaign manager
• Graphic designer
• Copywriter
• Website developer
• Email marketer
• Strategist

…and that’s all before you actually run the business.

A lot of small business owners end up wearing every hat because it just comes with the territory.

But marketing doesn’t have to mean doing everything yourself.

Sometimes you just need someone to:

Help you figure out what actually matters
Get a simple plan in place
Take a few things off your plate

That’s exactly where I come in šŸ‘‹.

Because running a business is already a full-time job. Marketing shouldn’t have to be another one.

Taking a week off… sort of.

My first concert in ages this evening (seeing Dave šŸŽ¤) and the first ever night our baby is staying somewhere else - very excited to get a lie in but I keep finding myself making this face 😬😬.

Then it’s straight into Cheltenham week (my fiancé’s family take sport very seriously), a few good meals, and some proper family time before he starts his new job.

And yes… there will probably be a bit of work sprinkled in.
Not because I have to - because I genuinely love what I do.

One of the weird but wonderful things about running your own business is that the lines blur a bit. A ā€œweek offā€ might still include a random idea you want to jot down, replying to a message, or a quick bit of content planning over coffee.

But that’s also the beauty of it.

I get to build a business that fits around real life - family time, big life moments, and the occasional Cheltenham horse šŸŽ (wish me luck!)

Becoming a mum changed my life in all the ways people talk about… and in some ways people don’t talk about enough.

During maternity leave, I lost my job.
It’s one of those moments that could easily knock the wind out of you - especially when you’re already navigating the huge life shift of raising a tiny human.

But if there’s one thing I see again and again in women, it’s resilience.
The ability to keep going.
To adapt.
To rebuild when things don’t go the way we planned.

For me, that meant taking a step I probably wouldn’t have taken otherwise - starting my own business.

Building something that's mine, allowed me to do what I love, help other business owners and create a career that fits around my life now.

So today I’m celebrating the women who keep going;
Through career changes
Job losses
Sleepless nights
and the constant juggle of building a life and a livelihood.

Because sometimes resilience doesn’t look like a big dramatic moment.
Sometimes it just looks like showing up again tomorrow and figuring it out.

Happy International Women’s Day šŸ’œ

If you’re a woman building something of your own, I’d love to hear what sparked it šŸ’¬

Can we talk about booking meetings… and then not showing up?

I completely understand that things come up.
Life happens. Calendars get chaotic.

But there’s something about a last-minute cancellation (or worse, no cancellation at all) that feels heavier when you run your own business.

Because when you’re freelance, time isn’t just time.

It’s prep beforehand.
It’s moving other work around.
It’s childcare arranged.
It’s the mental shift into ā€œbe switched on for this callā€.

And when someone forgets?

That hour doesn’t magically reappear.

I don’t think people do it maliciously.
I think we’re all just busy and juggling too much.

But respecting someone’s time is respecting their business.

And when you’re a small business, your time is one of the biggest things you’re selling.

A simple message beforehand, makes more difference than you probably realise.

Fellow business owners - is it just me, or has this become more common?

This is who’s running your marketing, by the way ✨.

She had big ideas.
A questionable fringe.
And no idea that her interest in all things creativity would become her career.

Going viral isn’t the aim.

I know that’s not a very exciting thing to say in this social media world.
But it’s true.

Most small businesses don’t need 100,000 views.
They need the right people seeing them consistently.

Because visibility isn’t the same as recognition.
And recognition isn’t the same as trust.

Going viral might get you attention for a day.
But consistency builds familiarity, familiarity builds trust and trust is what actually brings enquiries.

The clients I work with don’t usually say,
ā€œI saw that one post that blew up.ā€
They say,
ā€œI’ve been seeing your content for a while.ā€
That’s the difference.

You don’t need to be everywhere and jump on every trend.
You need to show up often enough that when someone needs what you offer, your name feels obvious.

That’s brand recognition.
And it’s built quietly.

If your focus this year is less ā€œgo viralā€ and more ā€œbe rememberedā€, you’re probably on the right track.

What would you rather have — one viral post, or steady enquiries?

Did you know…

Most small businesses don’t struggle with marketing because they’re bad at it.

They struggle because they’re trying to do it on top of everything else.
- The actual work
- Running a business
- Piles of paperwork
- Chasing invoices
- Having a life

Marketing becomes the thing you’ll ā€œsort when it’s quieterā€.
But it’s rarely quieter.

And consistency doesn’t come from motivation.
It comes from having a plan that’s realistic for the season you’re in.

If your marketing feels stop-start at the moment, it’s probably not a creativity issue.

It’s a capacity one.

Give me a shout if you need a hand šŸ‘‹.
