🤖🤖 With the increase in AI businesses, we have encountered the same recurring question from several of our Edinburgh SEO clients.

"Is the .ai domain name extension treated the same by Google for SEO?"

Something all SEOs and business owners must remember is that these domains are often ccTLDs (Country Code Top-Level Domain), meaning they are used specifically for the country they were made for. The .ai domain is the ccTLD for the island of Anguilla in the Caribbean.

Our advice was to use a .ai domain name, given the brandability of the domain. Also, given how Google has treated previous similar domains, it was assumed they would work great internationally.

Gary Illyes of Google has since said the following on the Google SEO Office Hours from July 11th: “As of early June 2023, we treat .ai as a gTLD in Google Search, so yeah, you can use it for your global presence!” https://youtu.be/Y5Zq68cjnpM?t=878

Google has delayed its upcoming update from May to "mid-June". The update is likely to be fully rolled out by the end of August.

Teckle Digital has been working in the background ensuring all of our clients are ready for this update.

The page experience update will now gradually rollout in mid-June and won't be fully live until the end of August.
