Graphic design advice I needed at 20, not 29 🤍
If I could go back, here’s what I’d tell myself:
1. A logo is not a brand; it’s just one part of it. Your brand is the feeling people get when they interact with your business. The colours, the fonts, the way you communicate, the experience you create. All of it together is your brand. The logo is just the door.
__________
2. Pretty design without strategy is just decoration. If there’s no thinking behind why you chose those colours, that font, that layout, then it won’t connect with the right people. Design should solve a problem, not just look good.
__________
3. If your brand confuses people, it’s not a design problem; it’s a strategy problem. Clarity comes before creativity. Know who you’re talking to, what you stand for, and what makes you different. Then design from there.
__________
4. Your visuals should all tell the same story. Consistency is what makes a brand feel professional and trustworthy. When your Instagram, your website, your business card, and your packaging all feel like they belong together, that’s when a brand becomes recognisable.
__________
5. A strong brand makes people feel something before they read a word, that’s the power of visual identity done right. Colour, shape, and typography carry emotion. Use them with intention.
__________
6. You don’t need to have it all figured out to start. This one’s personal. I started building my brand again at 29, after moving countries, working part time, figuring it out as I go. You don’t need to be ready. You just need to begin.

I’m a brand strategist & graphic designer sharing the lessons as I build my own brand from scratch. If this helped, save it for later. 🤍
