This week, we're trying something a little different as Scottish Scran Reviews introduces a brand-new series — SSR Bakery Reviews! 👀

And where better to kick things off than Spruce and Stag Micro Bakery? ❤️

We picked up a proper selection of their bakes, including cookies, pastries and some seriously tempting sweet treats, and put them through the SSR test.

But because bakeries are a little different from your traditional restaurant, we've switched up the scorecard too.

From now on, our SSR Bakery Score will judge:

🙂 Service

🔥 This week on Scottish Scran Reviews…we're checking out Roast’d Oven & Grill! 🥔🔥

And this one proves that food doesn't always have to look pretty to taste good! 😂

We went for the pulled pork loaded baked tattie, loaded up with cheese and garlic butter.

A fluffy baked tattie, rich garlic butter, tender pulled pork and plenty of melted cheese… basically proper comfort food in a tattie! 🥔🐷🧀

🦞 THIS WEEK ON SCOTTISH SCRAN REVIEWS…

This week we're heading to Cullen to check out Skink Co, a street food trailer serving up Scottish coastal flavours, with a particular focus on Cullen Skink and fresh seafood.

And this one was a little different… 👀

We tucked into three seafood dishes:

🦞 Lobster-topped Cullen Skink — a Scottish classic with a seriously indulgent twist.
🦀 Crab Cake Slider — a golden, tender crab cake served in a soft slider.
🦞 Lobster Brioche Sub — sweet, succulent lobster with that soft, buttery brioche.

Cullen is, of course, the home of Cullen Skink, so there was plenty to live up to! The dish has its roots in the area's fishing heritage and traditionally combines smoked haddock, potatoes, onions and milk.

But how did Skink Co's take on it — and the rest of the seafood — actually fare?

SSR DOES A FOOD CHALLENGE! 🍳🥓💪

This week we swapped the review for something a little different… the Full Send Breakfast Challenge at The Abbey Inn, Kinloss!

35 minutes. One seriously MASSIVE Scottish breakfast. And if I could finish the whole thing… it was FREE! 😳

Safe to say, this was one hell of a challenge! 😂

🇬🇷 THIS WEEK'S SCOTTISH SCRAN REVIEW IS HERE! 🇬🇷

This week we headed to Greek Gyros in Elgin to try some Greek-inspired scran. 🥙

I went for the chicken gyros, loaded with chicken, chips, tomatoes, onions and tzatziki — and it certainly didn't disappoint!

As always, this is an honest and independent review, looking at the food, value, service and atmosphere.

This week I decided to head to the popular local, independent restaurant Scribbles who have been in Elgin Town Centre since 2001.

Here's what we ordered:

🍕 Carne Mista Pizza w/BBQ sauce base - Spicy beef, Ham hock, N'Duja sausage & bacon with mozzarella. Medium, Thin & Crispy - £14.25

🥪 Open Toasted Sourdough Sandwich with Beef & Chilli - £8.25

🍗 🍟 Sticky Chilli Chicken - Chicken fillets in a sweet & spicy chilli sauce, with skinny skin-on fries, house salad & coleslaw - £17.95

🍔 🍗 Kids Chicken Fillet Burger & Fries - breaded fillet pieces with lettuce & mayo in a brioche bun. Served with fries and Corn on the cob - £8.99

There was a slight wait for the food maybe 15/20minutes but it all came together and was delicious with no complaints from anyone.

⭐ SSR SCORECARD

🍴 FOOD — 7/10
The food was satisfactory without being any more than you would expect. There was nothing that made it stand out. Large portions which assists the next scoring point.

💷 VALUE — 8/10
A few marks knocked off as I felt the sticky chilli chicken was quite expensive.

😊 SERVICE — 8/10
Quickly seated to by the female member of staff upon entering and asked regarding allergies etc. Also very attentive throughout service and had a smile on her face 😊

🏡 ATMOSPHERE — 8/10
Background music at an adequate level without interrupting any conversation, warm & homely vibes.

⭐ OVERALL SSR SCORE — 7.8/10

Definitely somewhere I will revisit again in the future. A nice place to go with the family that doesn't break the bank. Particularly the lunch menu was good value for money and the sourdough open sandwich particularly looked amazing!

🎉 The wait is finally over...

Welcome to the very first review from Scottish Scran Reviews! 🍔🏴

To kick things off, we headed to The Humble Burger to see what they had to offer, and I'm excited to finally share my thoughts with you.

Scottish Scran Reviews was created with one simple goal: to shine a spotlight on the fantastic cafés, restaurants, pubs and takeaways we have across Moray and Scotland.

Every review will be honest, independent and based on my own experience as a paying customer. If somewhere deserves the praise, I'll happily give it. If there's room for improvement, I'll always be fair and constructive.

A huge thank you to everyone who's supported the page so far. Reaching over 250 followers before posting a single review has been amazing, and I'm genuinely grateful for every follow, like, comment and share.
