AI is making it easier than ever to create flyers, business cards, posters, and marketing materials.

And to be honest, some of the designs it comes up with are pretty impressive.
It's a great tool for generating ideas, exploring different styles, and getting a project off the ground quickly.

But there is one thing worth knowing: most AI-generated designs aren't actually print-ready.

We often see things like:

The biggest thing that catches people out when they’re designing for print is definitely the difference between margins and safe zones.
A lot of people treat them as the exact same thing, but they actually do two completely different jobs.

Think of the safe zone as your insurance policy. It’s there to protect the critical stuff: your text, logos, contact details, and QR codes.
Usually, you want to keep these at least 3mm to 5mm away from the edge. Why? Because once your job is printed, it gets mechanically trimmed down to size. Guillotines are incredibly accurate, but tiny physical shifts can still happen during cutting. If your text is sitting right on the line, it’s going to look uneven, or worse, get chopped off entirely.

Margins, on the other hand, are all about visual breathing room.
In short, the safe zone stops disasters, but your margins make it look good.ill look crammed into the corner and awkward to look at. Giving it a wider margin pushes it further in, creating a balanced, professional layout that’s much easier on the eye.
