Not everything in your business has to earn its keep.

I created this event because I wanted it to exist. It isn’t networking, it isn’t a way to get clients, and it hasn’t got a funnel behind it. It’s an evening where founders and freelancers say the hard bits out loud and nobody tells them to work harder.

Completely unnecessary, just completely and gloriously inessential.

When you know what’s holding your business up, and it’s secure, everything else gets to be a choice. And some of those choices are just for the joy of it.

But today I mean it differently. Please repeat what’s working. Especially the load-bearing bits.

When something works, make sure it’ll work again. Every time. Don’t leave that to luck, dumb or otherwise.

But I will ask about your client feedback. Your numbers. What you’ve already tried, and what didn’t work.

Then, together, we work out what’s right for your business. Based on what your business has shown us, not a formula or a framework.

Past me used to stop at the celebrating. It’s one of the most repeated bits of advice on here, after all.

What I wish I’d known is what comes next: protect what’s working. Make sure it’ll work again. Not through luck (dumb or otherwise) but every time.

That’s what I mean when I talk about securing what’s load-bearing. Finding the thing the rest of your business is resting on is a brilliant achievement. But protecting it is when you start getting your freedom back.

I learnt this one the hard way.

I moved to Falmouth on a whim after a day-trip on a ferry.

I love how this place look after each other. I watched a new bar’s Insta account recently fill up with so many other local bars wishing them luck. That the business world and the real world I want to be part of, and the one I want to help build.

I think best either paddling in the sea or gazing at the horizon with a cuppa,which is why you’ll find a lot of on this feed. And I love that our sunsets look like this, even though I don’t live on the sunset coast.
