If your website sounds like a dating profile written by a management consultant…you’ve gone too far.

Nobody has ever sat down with a cup of tea and thought:

“What I really need is a company that’s passionate about leveraging innovative customer-focused solutions.”

People mostly want to know:

What do you do?

Can you do it?

And are you a complete nightmare to deal with?

That’s about it.

The internet is absolutely full of businesses trying to sound impressive.

The ones winning are usually the ones sounding human.

Bit like dating really. ❤️

One profile says:

“Delivering excellence through strategic innovation.”

The other says:

“Own a pub. Got a dog. Make a decent roast.”

And somehow one of them has mysteriously got 99 more matches.

Funny that.

A useful business tip. 💡

If a customer asks a question you’ve answered more than three times this month…

Put the answer on your website.

Most businesses are sitting on years of useful knowledge, but it’s usually trapped inside emails, phone calls and conversations that disappear into the ether.

Every question is content.

Every answer is marketing.

The trick is writing it down before you have to answer it for the fourth time.

This weekend I was convinced I lived in Portugal. 🇵🇹

Blue skies.

Turquoise water.

People wandering about looking suspiciously relaxed.

Today I looked out of the window and realised I live in Cornwall after all.

Which reminded me of something.

Business owners are often terrible judges of how things are going.

One good day and we’re planning the extension.

One quiet day and we’re updating the CV.

The weather changes.

The tide changes.

Most successful businesses aren’t built by people who never doubt themselves.

They’re built by people who keep showing up anyway.

Because one day rarely tells the whole story. 🌊

There is a wall in this photograph.

The flowers have launched a successful takeover. 🌸

Which seems unfair because the wall did all the heavy lifting.

Business can be like that.

You spend months building the foundations.

Then people fall in love with the bit they can see. 🩵

Working from home today.

My client wanted:

a car house

a festival

a campfire

and somewhere to cook marshmallows.

No revisions.

No strategy meeting.

Just absolute confidence in the vision. 😅

Random marketing fact. 😅

Most people don’t read websites.

They scan them.

Which means if your homepage looks like a GCSE English essay…there’s a fair chance nobody’s reading it. 👀

This peacock walked past my son’s football training last night. ⚽️

Which was odd.

I don’t know where he came from.

I don’t know where he was going.

But he looked like he had every right to be there.

Which is a level of confidence most of us can only dream of. 🦚
