Before I worked in marketing tech, I worked in the Print and Direct Mail industry. I was the account manager. The person that stood between the client and production.
Which meant there was always a problem to solve.
Machines breaking down. Client specs changing at the last minute. Human error (or people doing daft things).
And I'm not even joking when I say things went even more awry around a full moon.
All of this taught me that things will not always go to plan. Obviously.
But what matters is how you respond when they don't.
No panicking, no guessing, no rushing and making it worse.
Instead, take a step back and find out what you need to know. Then work through possible solutions.
It turns out that's a very transferable skill. (Which was news to me as I was slightly institutionalised, but that's another post.)
It's exactly how I approach tech issues now. Calmly and one step at a time.
Even when the moon is doing its thing.
