Having Pablo in the office yesterday reminded me of a very interesting point on projecting what you think is best onto your customer and realising they have alternative requirements to what you originally thought of...

In my humble opinion, I thought Pabs would be comfy and cosy on the sofa in my office, so I spent time making it perfect and surrounded with his favourite teddies - Pablo, on the other hand, had one key goal in mind - neighbourhood watch from the office window.

Adjustments were made, and a comfy blanket was placed on my adjustable desk - and there he remained, happy as can be.

The lesson here - dogs are nosey - but also sometimes you need to look outside the box of a situation. If you are too close to your business or a project, you can fall into the trap of pushing out what YOU THINK your customers want rather than getting the full picture.

This is where I come in - with over 18 years in the Marketing industry, I look at your business as a whole with fresh eyes, delving into what your customer really wants and how you can actively communicate with them.

If you would like a complete marketing audit and competitor analysis, get in touch today...or tomorrow... whenever, you're the customer after all!

This week’s marketing musings are brought to you by the letter D.

D - Disconnected Tactics

Here’s a setup I see in established businesses all the time:

You’ve got a PPC agency running Google Ads, an SEO freelancer writing blog posts, a graphic designer updating sales decks, and an internal team member posting on LinkedIn.

The catch? None of them are actually talking to each other.

It’s the ultimate marketing trap. You’re spending serious money on individual tactics, but without an overarching strategy connecting the dots, it’s like paying for a full orchestra where every musician is playing a completely different song at full volume. It’s loud, it’s expensive, and it makes zero sense to the audience.

Here is what happens when your marketing is disconnected:

Your ads drive traffic to a landing page that doesn't match the promise in the headline.
Your SEO targets keywords your actual high-value buyers never search for.
Your social media talks about how friendly your team is, while your sales deck frames you as a high-end corporate enterprise.

Before you throw more money at another isolated channel, you need to step back and look at the whole ecosystem.

That’s where a marketing audit comes in. We look under the hood of your entire customer journey, spot where the hand-offs are failing, and map out a single, joined-up strategy so every pound you spend is actually pulling in the same direction.

Stop paying for disconnected noise. Let’s audit your setup, find the gaps, and build a plan that works.

This week’s marketing musings are brought to you by the letter C
C - Chaos vs. Clarity

Most established businesses don’t actually have a marketing strategy. What they have is a series of panic-induced reactions.

Here’s what Marketing Chaos usually looks like in the wild:

The MD waking up on Tuesday thinking, "We haven't posted anything in two weeks, someone stick a picture of the office dog on LinkedIn!"
Throwing £3k at a random ad campaign because a Director had a "gut feeling" over coffee.
Paying three separate agencies or freelancers who have never spoken to each other, all pushing different messages in different directions.

It’s noisy, it’s exhausting, and it burns through budget for fun.

Marketing Clarity, on the other hand, is pure peace of mind -

It’s having a streamlined 12-month strategy in which every campaign, budget line, and piece of content serves a specific commercial goal. You know exactly what’s working, what’s a complete waste of time, and where your leads are actually coming from. No guessing, no last-minute scrambling at 4 PM on a Friday.

You can't fix chaos by throwing more random tactics at the wall. You fix it by taking a step back, auditing what’s broken under the hood, and building a proper plan.

If your marketing currently feels like an expensive game of whack-a-mole, let’s sort it out. I’ll audit your entire setup, spot the gaps, and deliver a clear, actionable strategy.

Or keep throwing darts in the dark... your call! Live your life! 🤣

Most marketing advice fails for one simple reason: it’s built for a generic template, not your actual business.

When you're navigating a critical transition (like a complete company rebrand, a market repositioning, or a scaling push), applying generic "best practices" just wastes budget.

You don't need a 50-page document full of complex agency jargon. You need three things:
Clear gap identification: Pinpointing exactly where your current messaging or funnel is leaking momentum.
Plain-English direction: Actionable steps tailored strictly to your operations, team capacity, and goals.
Strategic clarity: Knowing precisely what to focus on right now so you aren't overwhelmed.
That’s why every engagement starts with a deep-dive Marketing Audit. We diagnose the health of your existing ecosystem before recommending a single tactic.

When you replace random acts of marketing with a bespoke audit, the path forward becomes simple:
"Emma took time to understand my business so that she gave me the best advice. She is extremely positive and encouraging... She focused on marketing my business as I go through a rebrand. I received lots of hints and tips in a way that I understood."

Planning a rebrand, repositioning, or strategic growth push? Stop guessing where your marketing budget should go next.

📩 Send a DM with the word "AUDIT" to lock in a preliminary 30-Minute Marketing Gap Assessment. We’ll review your high-level strategy live and identify your three biggest growth opportunities.

Today is brought to you by the letter B.

B - Best times to post

Every scheduler under the sun will tell you the "optimal" times to post based on general platform activity. But here’s my advice: ignore the generic charts and ask yourself one simple question...

Who are you actually talking to?

Let’s run through a couple of quick scenarios:

Selling business coaching to a CEO?
Their day is wall-to-wall meetings, and their unread inbox is spiralling. Where are the actual gaps in their day? A quick scroll over a sandwich at lunch? 7:30 AM over a quiet coffee before the madness kicks off?

Launching a new product for busy mums?
Her morning is pure chaos. One kid is refusing to wear their uniform, the other has just chucked Weetabix all over the table, and she hasn't even had a chance to get herself dressed yet. Social media is the absolute last thing on her mind. So when is her downtime? 7:00 PM when everyone’s fed and watered? 9:00 PM when the house is finally quiet? ...Maybe!

The point is, YOUR best time to post revolves entirely around YOUR customer. Get inside their world, figure out their daily routine, and hit them when they actually have the headspace to care.

Or... just get me to do it for you!

The week's marketing musings are brought to you by the letter A

A - Attention-grabbing

I don't know about you, but when I see a post that says "STOP SCROLLING," I scroll faster ...why? Well, because A is also for A**hole, and that's the mentality I have: "don't tell me what to do", so I scroll without reading it.

Grabbing your audience's attention is becoming harder and harder for businesses with a massive over-saturation of content to contend with. So how do you stand out?

There are a few pointers I would give;

1. Why - Ask yourself why you are posting this particular piece of content; what is your end goal? (Wait...has my why become a what? 🤔)

2. Who - Who are you talking to? Like, seriously get granular with this - are you posting to small business owners...because there's a whole squad of us -all with different personalities, goals and trigger points? Really think in that moment: who is THIS post targeted at? What do they think, feel and resonate with? (ffs my Who has become a what too now)!

I could go on and on, to be honest, but at some point I need to start charging you, so I will wrap it up here. Take time with your content, have a strategy...or if that all sounds like hard work, get me to do it for you.

A Peek Inside a Marketing Business Owner's Brain

Ever wonder what's actually happening up here? 🧠

Strategy. Content creation. SEO. Lead funnels. Email automation. Local maps. Photography. Filming. Managing my own social accounts. Website builds. Training. Research. Competitor analysis. Proposals. WhatsApp messages. Calls and comms. Social notifications...

And that's just before lunch.

Running a marketing business means wearing every single hat simultaneously. You're the strategist, the creator, the analyst, the trainer, and somehow still the one answering client emails at 9 PM.

But here's the thing – I wouldn't have it any other way. Because every skill I've picked up, every late night, every challenge I've solved for myself first? That's exactly what makes me better at solving them for my clients.

If you're a business owner juggling a hundred things at once, you're not alone. And if you're ready to hand some of those balls to someone who actually knows how to keep them in the air, let's talk.

What's taking up the most space in your brain right now?

The "fun" thing about running your own business is that to take any time off, you need to work like a maniac for the weeks leading up to it.

All my clients' socials are done, reporting sorted, audits sent away, proposals are out - now it's officially out of office time.

If you need me, then send a carrier pigeon to Sicily with your message.
