Benji B invites Chicago's LLL on to his BBC Radio 1 show.

When LLL dropped their first 7" on Star Creature Universal Vibrations Global Caress imprint it sold out in a hot minute. But it’s a good news situation as LLL is back with the ‘HELLLINN 12’ EP full of that same energy - unhinged and deliberate, off the wall mutant house. Caustic synth lines mixed with furious electro sludge made to oooze out of club speakers. This 4-tracker strikes with the intensity of classic Chicago with additional synth savagery. Less sub percolator, more club instigator.

Benji B plays 'AREA CODE 336 PHONE RINGS' from Ben Hixon's 'Vision EP' out on Kai Alcé faultless NDATL imprint.

Ben is a Texas-born, but Brooklyn-based artist who has become a firm favourite of true deep house heads. With several EPs on Dolfin, all of which find a perfect sweet spot between immersive atmospheres and late-night drive. Dusty analogue textures and frayed edges define his drums, while the subtle details are intelligent and add effortless emotion. He's a perfect fit for NDATL Muzik, the Atlanta label that has long been a flagbearer for well-crafted house grooves like these.

DJ Mag talk to Artwork about the birth of Dubstep at Big Apple Records.

At the turn of the century, an unassuming little record shop in Croydon, 10 miles south of London, unwittingly helped crystalise one of electronic music’s most futuristic and enduring sub-genres: dubstep. With Artwork and Hatcha behind the counter and punters such as Skream, Benga and Mala bringing in their new tunes for an airing, it was inevitable that a Big Apple Records label would be formed. The imprint fed into the nascent dubstep scene that quickly spread internationally, and it continued until 2007, three years after the shop closed its doors. Now the influential Big Apple imprint is being revisited, with a stack of reissues on the horizon.

Star Creature Universal Vibrations Tim Zawada spent a weekend hitting up shops and networking around the Movement related parties and next thing you know, they are almost gone! The first 7” from LLL on Star Creature’s Global Caress imprint came and went fast! Largely driven by the initial rush in Detroit but as soon as the world got a taste for the true electro acid vibes, a cop-on-sight warning was issued.
