Mistakes? Failure? Are these dirty words?
Many women leaders I work are keenly aware that they’re being watched, and take special care not to put a foot wrong. There are plenty of people in your life and work who are only too happy to let you know when you’ve made a mistake. Only too happy to remind your of that failure…
You’re probably your biggest critic in that.
As ambitious women — men too — we tend to see the gap between where we are and where we want to be. At the end of the week, looking back, it’s the things that went wrong, the things we haven’t managed to complete that we focus on. The ‘still to do list’. That can be really discouraging. Especially if your inner critic is strong.
What if, instead, you look back at your achievements over the past week, the past month, the past year? The big or small wins that you can celebrate and feel good about. Especially the small things. Our lives, our destinies are influenced more by the small day-to-day decisions, the day-to-day routines, than they are by the big decisions and achievements.
Take time today to celebrate a little something you’ve accomplished and feel really good about it. Share this with your team, your network. Encourage them to share their wins with you and one another. This is a powerful way to built trust.
