⬇️ Are your organic LinkedIn views dropping (again)? ⬇️

There are 3 main reasons for it - and one simple solution.

⏩ REASON 1: people are back in the office. When the boss is looking over your shoulder, there's less time for trawling LinkedIn.

⏩ REASON 2: people are back from furlough. Still had to keep up with developments even when you couldn't officially work.

⏩ REASON 3: the algorithm has changed again - of course it has!

Instead of seeing a big jump in post views in the first couple of hours after posting, they now crawl up gradually over a few days.

If you get enough engagement they can continue increasing for up to a couple of weeks.

Although they'll probably still struggle to reach the levels they were at the height of the summer.

You can no longer rely on posting good quality updates to land new clients.

Sheesh, what are you thinking?? 😡

OK, I shouldn't get so irate, it's your time and effort you're wasting, not mine...

But I still hate to see people screwing up a perfectly good business with a lack of planning.

✳️ All your social media posts should have a purpose

✳️ And they should tell a story

✳️ A cohesive, connected story that makes sense

✳️ A story that turns prospects into customers

As with everything, if you don't plan carefully you'll end with a ragbag social media presence that's easy for your audience to ignore.

A well-planned, structured content schedule:

✳️ So don't try to promote your business on all the socials just because they're there.

⭐️ Social Media 101 - Day 3: Know Your Audience ⭐️

You hear this ALL the time when you're doing your own marketing - but why is it so important?

Knowing your audience inside and out allows you to:

✴️ create content that interests and engages them
✴️ share posts which help solve their specific problems
✴️ start meaningful conversations when they respond to you
✴️ create trust and understanding - key elements of a strong relationship

Knowing your audience (customers/clients) helps you create content that is appropriate to whichever stage of the buyer journey they're at:

✅ Awareness
✅ Consideration
✅ Conversion

In a nutshell, a clear picture of your target audience stops you wasting a single word.

It's VERY time consuming to create good social media content, so make sure that effort is worth it.

Leaping into social media without defining 1) why you're doing it and 2) what you aim to achieve is daunting, difficult and futile.

Knowing your goals keeps you focused on:

✴️ creating the right content
✴️ finding the right audience
✴️ measuring the right data
✴️ getting the right results

According to a Sprout Social survey, the top social media goals for marketers are:

✅ raising brand awareness (79%)
✅ direct sales & lead generation (59%)
✅ increasing community engagement (48%)
✅ growing followers (46%)
✅ increasing web traffic (45%)

NOTE: growing followers is NOT an effective goal in its own right, they have to be the right followers who will actively engage with your brand/business.

Your objectives may very well be a mixture of the above, but if you don't clearly understand what they are from the outset, your social media activity can quickly turn into a highly disillusioning time-suck.

Launching your business on social media without knowing precisely why you're doing it is a recipe for disaster.

And before we start, "gaining lots of followers" isn't a strategy.

It's not about how many followers you have, it's about how active they are.

✴️ What's your strategy for growing a large, highly active audience of relevant followers?

✴️ What's your strategy for getting your brand in front of your target audience?

✴️ What's your strategy for driving traffic to your website from your social media channels?

✴️ What's your strategy for generating sales on social media?

A social media strategy for your business can take many forms and have many pillars.

Are LinkedIn Groups utterly useless?

My personal experience over the past few years says they are.

I've only ever found one group that contained any useful dialogue or engagement.

Most are filled with users spamming their services.

None of the posts ever gets any engagement, so why would they bother?

Yet I can't help feeling there must be groups lurking somewhere that have thriving, active communities.

After all, it works on Facebook, so why not on LinkedIn?
