The joyful times always seem fleeting. After three days of open exchange, the 2023 End of the Year Show has officially come to an end.

Endings mark new beginnings, and we wholeheartedly wish these young designers who have emerged from Kingston School of Art a bright and promising future!

At the same time, we sincerely thank all the friends who came to visit the show. It's your support that motivates us to strive continuously.

Thank you all, and see you again next year! 💜💛

📖Open Book📖

To preserve the students' final projects, two students (Marie Gollhofer .ramie and Emily Foster ) have designed and produced this 'Open Book,' a catalogue that reflects our creative exploration through the year.

It highlights the students' projects but also includes insightful conversations with exceptional designers and thinkers who have enriched our journey. In addition, it features an article about our field trip to Folkstone by our course leader, Cathy Gale, and showcases award-winning work produced within the course. Don't miss it at the End of Year Show at Candid Arts this week!

‘What Do Memories Look Like’ by Xinyi Zhu

Memory is an abstract concept. My goal is to give the public an understandable perspective of what memory looks like through a design lens. My project consists of a concept video and an archive of memory objects. They support each other in exploring themes of memory.

I use the hand as a medium for memory transmission through the intimate act of projecting photographs of real objects onto real hands to establish an emotional link between people and memory objects.
Objects become distinctive because of the memories they carry. When the images of objects are projected onto human hands, the interaction of light with the human body creates a warm, reddish glow that wraps around the object.

This phenomenon gives life to an otherwise mundane object and enhances its resonance with human emotions and memories. Placing the hand in front of the projector can also be seen as holding the memories.

'The moon messenger: Artemes tidal power station' by Mengting Ou

The ancient Greeks believed, "The moon is a mirror." This project offers a different perspective on the moon to interpret the symbolism of "mirror" and "reflection."
The author, starting from the purpose of human use of tidal forces, uses visual storytelling to present the moon and the connection between humanity and a hydroelectric station (a human achievement). The story of this project takes place in a parallel timeline against the backdrop of the "Space Race" of the last century.

During a full moon in 1966, the moon once again sends signals to the Earth, seemingly in response to researcher Luo. This prompts Luo to embark on a dialogue with the moon.
Audiences can view this project as a visualized "bright science fiction." The central piece of this project is a publication that presents the dialogue between Luo and the moon.

Ultimately, what the moon responds with at the end of the story is, in fact, a reflection of humanity's own actions. While the moon itself lacks emotions, it takes on significance when humans are driven by a desire to explore the unknown and the cosmos.
