A HUGE THANK YOU to the new Mayor of Lewes this evening for saying he wants to "help the high street" and work with Lewes Traders Group, Lewes Chamber of Commerce and other organisations.

We look forward to working with you, Councillor Adrian Ross in the coming year to help give more support to the retailers and traders in the town.

SUPPORT LEWES'S SHOPS THIS BANK HOLIDAY!!

We hope people will take time to look round our wonderful shops this bank holiday weekend, many of which are independent and local and need the support of as many customers as possible!

Don't just stay on the "high street", have a good look round the Needlemakers and the Riverside. Remember Station Street and Lansdown Place.

Pop to the shops in the upper part of the high street including the bottleneck and, if you feel fit, don't forget Richard's Butchers and Maggie's House of Wine in Western Road.

There's lots to explore in the Cliffe as well.

There's so many amazing retailers in Lewes.

Over this Bank Holiday you MUST visit L.T.G. member Kanatani Toys in the lower floor at The Needlemakers! They have a great range of toys, many of which are Japanese themed, and the owners are both lovely.

But that's not all, do visit the other wonderful boutique shops based in the same building including more L.T.G. members Oil & Dust, Fallow Plants and Home, A Gateway to India, Kelly’s Lullaby Corner and Mary's.

But don't just visit, show them some love and buy things. 😁

Kanatani Toys started as a dream. A dream to bring sofubi to the UK and create a space where these incredible toys, artists, and ideas could actually be seen in real life, not just online or on our trips back to Japan.

For years we only ever saw sofubi through photos, conventions, and tiny glimpses hidden away online. Yet behind every piece is so much creativity, madness, colour, humour, storytelling, and passion. From the huge legendary brands to the smallest independent artists hand-painting figures at home, we genuinely love it all.

There’s something special about seeing the inside of someone’s imagination turned into vinyl.

We know sofubi is niche in the UK. We know building a shop around it is going to be slow, steady, and take a lot of hard work. But we’re willing to put in the hours because we truly believe these artists deserve to be showcased here too.

So to all the designers, makers, painters, sculptors, and indie creators out there — we hope one day you might believe in us too and let us help share your work with the UK.

I so love this message from L.T.G. member Radical Living: "Slow down, explore scents, textures and favourites at your own pace."

Shopping shouldn't be a mad rush to get round as quickly as possible, take your time, stop and look, pop in shops you wouldn't normally visit. Go off the beaten track, visit The Needlemakers and Riverside and see their wonderful boutique shops. See the lovely row of shops in Station Street and Lansdown Place.

You will find so many wonderful items and products that you never realised were in the town.

Don't be put off by those who say "Lewes is dead" or "There's no shops"... they are people who just like to spread negativity and get everyone feeling miserable.

Instead find out for yourself that we have the most amazing shops of all sizes, both independent and chains.

Lewes Traders Group exists to promote those wonderful shops and traders.
