Somalia has reportedly acquired Turkey’s ALKAR 120mm mortar system, developed by ASELSAN.

The system features digital fire control and reportedly has a maximum range of about 8.18 km.

The acquisition has not yet been officially confirmed by Somalia or Türkiye.

South West State forces have clashed with troops aligned with former leader Laftagareen, with residents reporting heavy gunfire and explosions in several neighbourhoods.

The military says it repelled an attack, while Laftagareen’s supporters dispute the account.
