KROOTOWN ROAD COMMUNITY (KTR)

Subject: Call for Peace, Justice and Accountability Following Reported Violence in Krootown Road

The Krootown Road Community (KTR) expresses its deep sadness, concern, and condemnation following the reported violent incident involving individuals from

Kossoh Town who allegedly came into the Krootown Road Community and engaged in acts of violence.

According to reports received by members of the community, the incident resulted in serious physical injuries, the reported loss of a community memberโ€™s life, and the destruction and damage of properties belonging to residents of Krootown Road.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and pray for strength and comfort during this difficult period.

We also wish a speedy recovery to everyone who sustained injuries.

KTR calls on the relevant authorities, security agencies, and community leaders to urgently investigate the incident and ensure that anyone found responsible is held accountable according to the law. We appeal for justice to be pursued through lawful and peaceful means.

At the same time, we strongly appeal to the people of Krootown Road and Kossoh Town not to engage in retaliation or further violence.

We must not allow the actions of individuals to create lasting hatred between entire communities.

Our community deserves peace, security, justice, and respect for human life and property.

We therefore call for:
An immediate end to all acts of violence and retaliation.

A proper and impartial investigation into the incident.
Protection for residents and their properties.

Justice for anyone who has been injured or lost their life.
Dialogue between community leaders to prevent further conflict.

Peace and calm between Krootown Road and Kossoh Town.

Krootown Road Community stands for peace, unity, justice, and the protection of every innocent life.

May the Almighty grant comfort to the bereaved, healing to the injured, and peace to our communities.

Who is Paramount Chief Charles Caulker

* Paramount Chief Charles B. Caulker is the Paramount Chief of Bumpeh Chiefdom in Moyamba District, Southern Province, Sierra Leone. Historical records list him as elected in 1984.
* He reportedly became Paramount Chief at around 35 years old, following the death of his father, and went on to serve for decades. A 2020 account celebrated his 35 years of service as Paramount Chief. And has rule for over 40 years
* He was also a prominent national traditional leader and served as Chairman/leader of the National Council of Paramount Chiefs. His work included peace-building, security, land management and traditional governance.
* During Sierra Leoneโ€™s civil war, accounts describe him as helping organise a civil defence force in his chiefdom to resist rebel forces.
* He was particularly interested in education and community development, including supporting girlsโ€™ education and sustainable agricultural projects in Bumpeh Chiefdom. He worked with the Sherbro Foundationโ ๏ฟผ on

He worked with the Sherbro Foundationโ ๏ฟผ on projects such as scholarships, schools and community fruit orchards intended to generate income for childrenโ€™s education and village development.
* In 2016, he travelled to the United States to speak about his development work and his vision for protecting and supporting children in his chiefdom.
* His leadership was especially noted for promoting peace and unity among the different groups living in Bumpeh Chiefdom.

The Caulker familyโ€™s historical connection

The Caulker family has a long history of traditional leadership in Bumpeh Chiefdom, going back generations. Historical accounts identify earlier members of the Caulker family as chiefs of Bumpe/Bumpeh.
