After taking some time to reflect on the few days we spent at PerformX Live a couple of weeks ago, we just had to share how great it was! 💥

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by to chat with us and put their gym on the map. From PTs and independent operators to major brands, every conversation helps us better understand the sector and shape our annual State of the UK Fitness Industry Report.

🌍 Its a new year but we have not forgotten about the stories of 2025! 📖

We love to celebrate the success of independents at Leisure DB, so we thought we'd share some of the latest independent openings from the end of 2025.

🏋🏽‍♀️Activ8 Fitness - Ladies Only Gym - Not only is Bedford the home of Leisure DB, but since late 2025, it is also the home of Activ8 Fitness - the newest and only ladies only gym in town. Opening 24/7 and with a wide range of classes, this former Anytime Fitness club is the place to be for the training women of Bedford. (So much so that one of the girlfriends of a leisure DB colleague will be joining)

🧬SmarttGym Crawley - Late last year, SMARTT GYM took over the Energie Fitness club in Crawley, evolving as an independent operator, providing a state of the art egym suite and sauna. The manager, Paul, has built a very capable team with the PT’s and coaches around him. Before Energie the gym was a Fit4Less club (2018).

🎾Clubhouse Blackburn - Padel is booming in the UK and stunning sites like CLUBHOUSE are riding that wave. The club has 5 doubles courts, 1 singles court, a lounge and a HYROX affiliated functional gym that will impress any fitness fanatic, competing or not.

💪DOMS Fitness - The much anticipated Doms Fitness has been a long time coming due to the highways agency, planning authority and solicitors stalling the clubs opening. This sleek 24/7 club is allowed to trade at low capacity currently but keep an eye on its socials for the official opening and a good laugh!

The Fitness Industry Annual Review is underway, and the Leisure DB team are out and about visiting clubs across the country. Really impressed with our visit to Fitness First UK , Bedford, fantastic facilities and great service from the whole team.

Great to see a number of our partners supporting the club, from the EGYM circuit showcased as “Able by Fitness First UK”, a well thought-out, integrated experience designed with members in mind, through to Life Fitness.
