The moment you leave a photography job knowing you have done your best and gone above and beyond because that is what you do with every one of your clients.

A busy festival style event at Knebworth House in the blazing heat and sunshine with a main stage with keynote speakers and panel discussions throughout the day, 15 workshops, over 25 round table sessions, spot meeting sessions, 2 main Sponsors and over 50 partners, with 750 attendees, some pop star lookalikes, a singing trio, and an Oasis tribute band in the evening.

I was there from 7.30am in the morning until 9pm in the evening.
Starting with the arrival of the attendees, registration, meet and greet with the lookalikes, networking before the event kicked off on the main stage, ending with the band in the evening and everything in between.

With most events, I am given a photography brief of what the client would like photographed during the day. I have done so many of events like this that many of my clients leave me to it because they know and trust that I will cover all the important bits and tell the story of the day or night with my own creative flair. For this new client, I was given a very detailed timed schedule and I had an extensive list of photo requirements including some of the main stage speakers and the main sponsors.

Having the schedule a few days in advance meant I could study it in great detail and I was able to plan my day to cover every single speaker and panel sessions, workshop, round table, sponsor and partner areas, and provide photos to the client not only in the 3 guide times they gave me but 5 times during the day so they could use my professional images for social media in an almost live fashion.

I’ve been known as the Branding Queen for my ability to include event branding, sponsors and partners in my photos, in a way that shows the importance of the sponsorship and how much the client values their participation.

I had a great day, walking over 25,000 steps, carrying 2 cameras, a Canon RS6 mirrorless with 16mm 2.8, 35mm 1.8 and 50mm 1.4 for the wider shots. On a Canon 5D3 which I’ve shot many of my award winning photos on over the years, I used a 70-200mm 2.8 lens for the closeups.

Many years ago I started experimenting with Ultra Violet light in the studio photographing with film. I created large scale portraits for clients using this technique always with an abstract crop, and sometimes as a joiner David Hockney style with oversize prints reaching up to several meters in height. They looked stunning on double height walls.

I’ve always loved pushing the boundaries in my photographic practice and experimenting with colour and darkroom techniques. So here’s a throwback to film photography. I started my photographic journey properly in 1989, taking a City & Guilds and GCSE in Photography at night school followed by an ALevel in the Science of photography. I’ve studied for 9 years in total in FE and HE and taught photography along the way!

This is one of my favourite analogue films, Kodak E100VS E6 transparency film cross processed in old Fuji C41 print chemicals. This process gives deep azure blues and bright bleached out whites with an almost cartoony effect on edges. This was taken about 20 years ago in Covent Garden. I had made the transition to digital by this time for working in newspapers and for my PR clients. It has been an incredible journey and I still love it now as I did back then. A lot of my fine art work is for sale. Or if you want training in photography, I offer 121 of group workshops.
