Hi all, I saw "The Untouchables" at Nell's Jazz and Blues last Saturday. The band was excellent, however the attendance was rather poor in comparison to previous evenings there.
The charge on the door is only £5 and the crowd is a mixture of all ages, young and older. The bar prices are also extremely reasonable - around £4 a pint.
I happened to meet Vince Power at the bar on Saturday - the man/legend behind Nell’s. Vince started his career in London in the early 80’s with the Mean Fiddler venture and became a massive player on the jazz/country clubs and festivals scene (Glastonbury, Creamfields, Hop Farm). Vince is particularly interested in attracting a local crowd to the venue. I think all of us are a little weary, given the rather dubious history of the club in recent years, but what Vince is doing with Nell’s is entirely different!
Nell’s could be a very important development in improving the night life of West Ken. I would urge everyone to check out the club and the impressive acts appearing in the upcoming weeks !
