Colour psychology is one of the most underused tools in small business marketing. Fun (and very useful) fact: Consumers make a subconscious judgment about a product within 90 seconds - and up to 90% of that assessment is based on colour alone.

🔵Blue = trust, reliability (banks, tech companies)
🔶Orange = energy, enthusiasm, approachability (sound familiar?)
💚Green = health, nature, growth
⚫Black = luxury, authority, sophistication

Your brand colours aren't aesthetic - they're psychological signals to your audience. Are your colours saying what you mean them to say?

🎨 What colours are dominant in your brand? Tell us in the comments - we'll give you a quick honest assessment.

There's one metric most small businesses completely ignore - and it might be the most important one.

Bounce rate.

Specifically: which page do people leave your website from most often?
If people are consistently exiting from your pricing page, your message and price don't align.
If they're exiting from your About page, you haven't built trust yet.
If they're exiting from your homepage, you've got 8 seconds and you're not using them.

Your exit pages are your conversion roadblocks.
Google Analytics shows them for free.

🧔 World Beard Day - and yes, there is a day for everything.

Here's the hidden gem: World Beard Day was inspired by a centuries-old Swedish tradition of beard-versus-non-beard village competitions. There are still dedicated beard championships worldwide.

Your marketing takeaway? Niche communities are POWERFUL. The most engaged audiences aren't the biggest ones; they're the most specific. Building a community around a shared identity (even a beard!) creates loyalty that broad audiences never achieve.

What niche community does your brand speak to? 🤔 Drop your answer below - the more specific the better.

September. The other January.
Kids back to school. Inboxes un-silenced. And suddenly everyone's in planning mode for Q4.

Here's the question worth asking before you sprint into the final quarter: Do you have a marketing strategy - or just a list of things you post? There's a meaningful difference.

A strategy has a goal, a target audience, a clear message, a channel plan, and a way to measure success. Q4 is where most small businesses make or break their year.
The ones who arrive prepared tend to leave satisfied. 🗓️

Drop a comment: what's your #1 marketing priority for Q4? Let's help each other think it through.

Happy August Bank Holiday to our UK followers! 🇬🇧

Here's a slightly radical idea for today: Do nothing work-related. Actually rest.
I know, I know.
Entrepreneurs are wired to hustle, but there's a mountain of research that shows creative thinking - the kind that leads to your best marketing ideas, product pivots, and business breakthroughs - only happens in a rested brain.

Some of the best campaigns we've ever built started as a scribble on a napkin during a walk in the park.
So today: step away.
The brand will be there tomorrow. You need to be sharp for it. Enjoy your day.
See you back here tomorrow. 🌿

🛒 Random Saturday fact that's actually useful for your marketing: The shopping cart was invented in 1937 by Sylvan Goldman - but people refused to use it at first.

Men thought it looked weak.
Women thought it looked like a pram.
So Goldman hired actors to push carts around his store, making it look normal.

The lesson? Even brilliant innovations need social proof. If people don't see others using your product or service, adoption is slow. That's why reviews, testimonials, case studies, and UGC (user generated content) aren't vanity - they're conversion tools.

How many reviews does your Google listing have right now? (No judgment. Genuine question.) 👇🏼

A sneak peak behind the scenes - Writing this book has taught me a completely new set of skills. 😂

Apparently, knowing how to market a business does NOT automatically mean you know how to publish a book! My determination, resilience & patience have definitely been tested. I’ve had to learn about formatting, book layout, ISBNs, Kindle, Amazon KDP, proof copies, cover design, print vs Kindle formatting, keywords, categories, colour reproduction & a whole host of things I’d never really considered before.

Truth Bomb - I’ve loved it.
One of my favourite things about my career has always been curiosity. Whether it’s launching an activation, building a partnership, creating a marketing strategy or, apparently, publishing a book - every challenge starts with being willing to learn.

Right… back to the book. 😂

I ordered a proof copy & thankfully, there were only a handful of formatting tweaks needed inside. Then came the cover saga.
I had my heart set on a vibrant turquoise. Bright, punchy, energetic - very me, except I couldn’t quite get it to reproduce the way I wanted.
Matt? Nope.
Gloss? Nope.
Different shades? Still nope. 🤦‍♀️

So eventually I thought; let's go RED.
Cherry Pop Red. ❤️ Surely THAT would work?
Well… it still didn't come through quite as vibrantly as it looked on screen. 😂

At some point, I had to accept that I could spend the rest of my life chasing the perfect shade of turquoise/red, or I could publish the book.
I have a whole new appreciation for every author whose book sits on my bookshelf.

So here we are. 📚 Show Up. Stand Out. Sell More.
If this book helps a business owner find a little more clarity, avoid a few expensive mistakes, understand their customers better or feel more confident about their marketing, then every late night, edit & argument with a colour palette was worth it. 😂

Sooo... WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE FINAL COVER?
Be honest; should I try turquoise again for my 2nd book? 😂💙

I didn’t set out to become an author. 📚
For years, “I’d love to write a book one day” was an idea that kept popping into my head but was followed by, “Maybe when I have more time.” 😂 Then I thought, why not now?

After years working across marketing, experiential, brand partnerships, sponsorships & business growth, I’ve worked with some brilliant brands, businesses & teams, built campaigns, made mistakes, learned heaps & seen the same challenges come up time & time again.

Brilliant businesses that struggle to explain what makes them different. Founders who know they need to market themselves, but have no idea where to start. Business owners juggling their website, social media, email, sales, & approximately 47 other jobs, 😅 & businesses spending time & money on marketing without knowing whether it’s actually helping them grow.

People have asked what inspired me to write a marketing book. Honestly? Frustration.
Not with marketing, but with how complicated we’ve allowed it to become. I wanted to write the book I wish existed: a practical, no-nonsense guide for start-ups & SMEs. No endless jargon. No “just go viral” nonsense. No telling you that you need to be everywhere, 24/7. Just practical advice, strategies, lessons, mistakes, what I’ve seen work & what I’ve seen businesses waste time & money on.

My Masters in Business & Management gave me the academic grounding. My 15+ years in the industry gave me the practical experience, & running my own agency, On Point International, has given me a deep understanding of what it takes to build & grow a business.

📚 Show Up. Stand Out. Sell More.
My first book, I’m incredibly proud of it. Not because I can now call myself an author (although it’s pretty chic 😂), but because I genuinely wanted to create something useful that founders can keep on their desk & return to whenever they need a little marketing direction.

📖 Now available on Amazon & Kindle: https://amzn.eu/d/0i8yCk4W
If you’re building, growing or marketing a business, I’d love for you to give it a read. ❤️

📸 Happy World Photography Day!

Here's a marketing truth every small business should know - People see your visuals before they read your words. In a world where customers scroll through hundreds of posts every day, your photography isn't just decoration, it's often your first impression.

Here are 5 ways better visuals can help your brand convert more customers:

✨ 1. Invest in authentic photography
Customers connect with real people, real teams & real stories. Professional, authentic imagery builds credibility far more effectively than generic stock photos.

🎨 2. Keep your brand visually consistent
Use the same colours, editing style, fonts & composition across your website, social media & marketing materials. Consistency helps customers recognise & remember your brand.

📱 3. Design for mobile first
Most social media users browse on their phones, so make sure your visuals are clear, high-quality & easy to understand on a small screen.

👥 4. Show people, not just products
Whether it's your team, your customers or your process, human-centred imagery creates stronger emotional connections & builds trust.

📊 5. Every image should have a purpose
Ask yourself: Does this photo educate, inspire, build trust or encourage someone to take action? Beautiful images are great, but strategic images grow businesses.

📈 The numbers speak for themselves:
• Content with relevant images receives around 94% more views than content without visuals.
• People remember approximately 65% of information when it's paired with a relevant image, compared with about 10% from text alone.

We don't just create content that looks good; we create strategic visual content that supports your business goals, strengthens your brand & helps turn attention into enquiries.

🌐 Is Your Website Helping Your Business Grow… or Driving Customers Away?

Your website is often your hardest-working employee - available 24/7, building trust and helping customers decide whether to contact you.

But when was the last time you gave it a health check?

Here are 10 quick website checks every SME should do this month:

✅ 1. Speed: Does your website load quickly? Slow sites lose impatient visitors.

✅ 2. Mobile experience: Does it look and work perfectly on a phone? Most customers browse on mobile first.

✅ 3. Clear call-to-action (CTA): Is it obvious what customers should do next? (Book, buy, enquire, call?)

✅ 4. Easy navigation: Can visitors find what they need in just a few clicks?

✅ 5. SEO & GEO basics: Are your pages optimised with keywords your customers actually search for?

✅ 6. Contact forms: Are they working, simple and easy to complete?

✅ 7. Trust signals: Do you showcase reviews, testimonials, certifications or client success stories?

✅ 8. Security: Is your SSL certificate active and your website safe for visitors?

✅ 9. Fresh content: Are your services, prices, images and information up to date?

✅ 10. Analytics: Do you know where visitors come from and what they do on your site?

📊 Did you know?
Research shows users form an opinion about a website within seconds, and poor user experience can directly impact trust, engagement and conversions.

Your website isn’t just a digital brochure - it’s your first impression, your sales tool and your opportunity to turn visitors into customers.

At On Point International Agency, we help SMEs create websites that look professional, perform better and support business growth.
