The most interesting part of the art world is not the object. It is the space between the object and the person standing in front of it.

That moment — of recognition, confusion, curiosity — is where value begins to form.

Everything around the work either supports that moment or distracts from it. The setting, the narrative, the way it is introduced. None of it is neutral.

Understanding this is what allows work to connect, rather than simply appear.

If you are thinking about how your work is received, this is where the conversation begins: demusson.com

No one has announced it, but the market has shifted.

Collectors are taking longer. Looking harder. Asking better questions. The pace has changed, and with it, the expectations around how work is presented.

What worked even a year ago is no longer enough. Not because the work has changed, but because the way it is being understood has.

This is where strategy becomes essential — not as an add-on, but as a foundation.

If you are navigating this shift, you are not alone.

The real question is not what gets attention — it is what holds it.

In a gallery, at a fair, or even in a fleeting moment online, most work is glanced at. Some is paused on. Very little is returned to.

That distinction matters. It is the difference between passing interest and genuine engagement.

Holding attention requires more than visual impact. It requires structure, context, and a sense that there is something worth staying for.

We think about this constantly.

Showing less is becoming a form of confidence.

In a market that has been saturated with content and competing voices, restraint stands out. Not as an aesthetic choice, but as a strategic one. Fewer works, more clarity. Less explanation, more conviction.

The shift is subtle, but powerful. It allows the work to breathe, and the audience to engage without distraction.

Those who are getting this right are not doing less for the sake of it — they are doing exactly what is needed, and no more.

It is a discipline worth understanding.

You can feel when something is working.

It is not always about the piece itself, but the energy that gathers around it — the way people slow down, the conversations that begin, the subtle shift in attention. These are the signals that something has landed properly.

Too often, this is left to chance. In reality, it can be shaped. Through context, through placement, through an understanding of audience that goes beyond surface level.

The difference between work that is seen and work that is remembered is rarely accidental.

If you are looking to create that kind of response, it starts with how the work is positioned — demusson.com

Not everything needs to be seen by everyone.

One of the most common missteps we see is the pursuit of visibility without distinction. Work is placed widely, but without a clear sense of who it is for or why it matters in that context. The result is exposure without traction.

The artists and galleries gaining momentum right now are doing the opposite. They are choosing carefully, placing deliberately, and allowing the work to build meaning within the right conversations.

Precision is outperforming presence.

If you are rethinking how your work reaches its audience, there is a smarter way to approach it — more at demusson.com

Some works only make sense in the room.

Not on a screen, not in a PDF, not reduced to a caption - but in the presence of people moving around them, pausing, returning, recalibrating what they think they are seeing. The most compelling moments in the market rarely happen in isolation; they happen in these quiet exchanges between work and viewer.

This is where attention is held, and where decisions begin to form.

We spend a great deal of time thinking about how work exists in these spaces - how it is encountered, and how it stays with someone long enough to matter.

The Bond Street dealers I respect most right now are doing something quietly counterintuitive.

They are showing less. Saying less. And, in many cases, achieving more as a result.

Not because restraint has become fashionable, but because there is a renewed sense of discipline underpinning their decisions. Each presentation feels considered, each work placed with intent, each conversation shaped by a clear understanding of audience. The question appears to have shifted from what can we show to what is our argument this season, and does everything support it.

This is a notable departure from the volume-led approach that defined much of the market in recent years. Bond Street, perhaps more than most, has always operated with a degree of confidence, but what is emerging now feels more deliberate — less about breadth, more about precision.

The galleries that have made this adjustment are not simply maintaining their position; they are strengthening it. Relationships are being deepened, trust reinforced, and the work itself given the space to hold attention.

It is a subtle shift, but one that is likely to define how this part of the market evolves over the coming year.

Mayfair has long been one of London's great cultural quarters. Beyond the luxury boutiques and historic streets lies a remarkable concentration of galleries, auction houses and museums that continue to shape the international art market.

We created this illustrated map as a celebration of that landscape — a guide to some of the institutions, spaces and streets that make Mayfair such an important destination for collectors, curators and art lovers alike.

From Bond Street to Shepherd Market, every corner offers the possibility of discovery.

June is when you find out who actually knows what they're doing.
The noise clears. The speculative energy drops. And what's left are collectors who are genuinely looking, and artists and galleries who are genuinely ready.
I've watched the June market for over two decades now. Every year it exposes the same thing: the difference between a communications strategy built on clarity, and one built on momentum.
Momentum runs out. Clarity doesn't.
If your positioning depends on the busy season to keep things moving - June will tell you. And that's actually useful information.
