Somewhere in the world, someone is reading my book with this inscription:

"Thanks for the great reports! I'm your fan Tim!"

Here's how that happened.

At BAM Marketing Congress in Belgium, Tim came to my book signing. We ended up hanging out and he introduced me to some wonderful people.

The next day he messaged me: "I left my signed book on my table and someone took it."

So whoever you are, mystery reader... I hope you're enjoying it. And I hope you're wondering who Tim is and what reports he wrote.

(Don't worry, I mailed Tim a replacement. The book cycle is complete.)

Just wrapped an amazing day 1 at The Marketing Congress in Belgium!

I had the pleasure of speaking to a wonderful crowd about the power of measuring what truly matters.

Here's what I covered:

- Now more than ever, understanding how your customers make buying decisions, their real intent and desired outcomes beyond your features and tech is vital.

- Combing through and analyzing conversations on Reddit, Quora, FB groups and other communities isn't "nice to have", it's the only way to stand out and create experiences that resonate and connect on an emotional level.

- It's not enough to just "test" for the sake of testing. You have to start running meaningful experiments that educate and direct your entire marketing strategy.

- And finally, that what really matters to your customers (no matter what you're selling) isn't the WHAT, it's the WHY. Invest in decoding the why, so you can create customer journeys people want to convert to.

Thanks for having me BAM! Can't wait for tomorrow's workshop and book signing session.

“I’m throwing everything I’ve got at my marketing, and nothing is sticking.”

Different industries, different business models, different goals, yet I keep hearing the same thing from founders, freelancers, and marketers.

They’ve tried everything:
New landing pages,
Optimized emails,
Different customer journeys,
Endless AI prompts and tools,
New “proven” tactics.

And still… nothing has worked the way they hoped it would.

☝️If that’s you, if you’ve spent the last year trying to create momentum and still feel stuck, you’re not imagining it.

Something is missing.

Thing is, increasing your effort, optimizing your offer, or working even harder isn't going to solve it.

It’s something far more fundamental.

You’re not the problem.

Your strategy is.

After running thousands of A/B tests, hundreds of landing pages, and years helping brands optimize their funnels, I can tell you with absolute certainty:

When your marketing doesn’t work, it’s almost never a tactic problem.
It’s an emotional clarity problem.

People don’t buy based on your features, funnels, or frameworks. They buy based on how your brand makes them feel.

And when you don’t know what emotional triggers drive your audience, your marketing will always feel “off,” no matter how much you tweak.

That’s why this month I’m hosting: ‘Your Marketing Breakthrough Year’

A workshop to help you diagnose exactly what’s missing from your marketing strategy, and get the roadmap to fix it fast.

This is a hands-on (pen-and-paper), workshop that will help you:

✔️ Diagnose exactly what’s missing from your marketing strategy
✔️ Get a clear understanding on why people aren’t buying
✔️ Score your current marketing and prioritize your next steps
✔️ Start 2026 with clarity, confidence, and a plan that actually works

If you want 2026 to be different, this workshop is for you.

I'm re-reading Cialdini's book: Influence and I really (really) like how every time I read it, something else resonates with me deeply or triggers ideas.

Right now I'm focused on the 'Commitment and Behavioral Consistency" principle which refers to people’s psychological drive to behave in ways that align with their previous actions, commitments, or self-image.

This connects really well with my Emotional Targeting Framework:

1️⃣ Understand what customers already believe, feel, and desire.

2️⃣ Optimize your messaging and user experience to relate to those existing emotions and motivations.

When you reflect someone’s internal narrative back to them, their pain, aspirations, or values they feel seen. That emotional "yes" is a powerful form of internal commitment.

Cannot recommend this book enough.

Want to get cited in LLMs?

Solve people's problems.

👋 Just me over here saying the same thing for 15+ years... 👋

Now highlighted by Semrush too.

According to their analysis of ChatGPT search behavior:

“When ChatGPT search cites webpages, the pages it cites rank in traditional organic search positions 21+ for related queries almost 90% of the time.”

Why do those pages get cited?

Because everything on page one of Google was designed to do just that, show up on page one.

But the sites showing up on pages 21+?

Those are the sites that created content to actually answer people's real questions and solve their problems. As Wil Reynolds mentioned back is SEOWeek, companies do not get rewarded by Google when they create helpful content, but they do on LLMs.

Instead of relying on websites alone, LLMs (for now) tend to surface highly contextual information that's specifically relevant to a person’s request or question.

Essentially when they do cite sources (which doesn't happen often enough), they often pull from deep, helpful content that wouldn't normally rank high in Google.

What does this mean for you?

Before you publish another generic blog post or landing page, take a minute to outline it in a way that ensures it actually solves a problem:

1. Write down one key pain your prospect feels before finding a solution
2. Mention how that pain affects their day-to-day life
3. Explain what they've tried before, and why it hasn't worked
4. Detail how your solution eliminates (or lessens) that pain

Content that answers real problems:

❌ Best budgeting software for startups
✅ How to tell if your burn rate is sustainable with unpredictable revenue

❌ Best employee engagement platforms
✅ Uncover why team morale is dropping when survey results look fine

❌ Top meditation apps 2025
✅ Why you still feel anxious even when you meditate daily

Not sure what your prospects' real pains are?

It's time to do more meaningful customer research.

03/09/2025

Last week, one of our experiments resulted in a 17% increase in conversions for one of the largest moving companies in the US.

Here's the breakdown of how we planned this test, the hypothesis and why we made the changes that we did:

Our research showed that our client's landing page was only the first step in a stressful, quote-gathering process. However, industry-standard pages weren't designed this way.

In the moving industry landing pages tend to be long and follow the same basic format:
1. An introduction to the brand,
2. Followed by all the different kinds of moves available,
3. Some social proof,
4. And a full detailed listing of services.

👆 Very critical info for anyone moving (I should know, I recently moved and the move almost broke me!)

But if all prospects want from this first step is a quick quote to compare companies, could all that information on the page actually be acting as a blocker?

So we decided to make a few key changes:
- Shorten the page to reduce mental load and stress and include only the most critical information they need to get their quote.
- Make the lead form LONGER by adding more helpful information and conversational messaging.
- Include the rest of the information on the thank you page while acknowledging that moving is stressful and highlighting that this is the information they need to feel better about the move.

Key takeaway: Just because everyone else is doing it doesn’t mean it’s working.
Make sure you're serving your prospects with the content they truly care about, at the right time.
