👀 Could your mascara be giving lash mites a helping hand? 🦠

We all love a good coat of mascara, but did you know that our eyelashes can naturally carry tiny organisms called Demodex mites?

Don’t panic! 😱 They’re microscopic and commonly live around hair follicles and oil glands. The problem can arise when there’s an overgrowth, which may contribute to symptoms such as:

✨ Itchy or irritated eyelids
✨ Redness around the lash line
✨ Flaky or crusty eyelashes
✨ Burning or gritty-feeling eyes
✨ Excessive watering

And one thing worth remembering… mascara and eye makeup can collect oils, skin cells and bacteria over time. Using old mascara or sharing eye makeup can increase the chance of eye irritation and bacterial contamination.

💄 Top mascara hygiene tips:
✔️ Replace mascara regularly — generally around 3 months after opening
✔️ Never share mascara or eye makeup
✔️ Don’t add water or other liquids to dried-out mascara
✔️ Avoid pumping the wand repeatedly, as this pushes more air into the tube
✔️ Remove eye makeup thoroughly before bed
✔️ If you have an eye infection or significant irritation, stop using eye makeup until it settles
