However, in 2023, a Performance Max (PMAX) campaign was introduced — and as indicated by the red lines, organic traffic started to decline.

➝ One reason to believe PMAX may have contributed to this drop is that the campaign wasn’t being properly or effectively managed.

So when someone searches for the company’s branded terms, the PMAX campaign will bid on those keywords. As a result, users are more likely to click on the paid listing rather than the organic one, which reduces reported organic traffic.

➝ To manage PMAX campaigns more effectively, I would recommend using a negative keyword list that includes your branded search terms.

This prevents the campaign from bidding on those branded queries, helping to keep your paid and organic traffic from competing with each other.
