I've had a fantastic variety of voiceover jobs this week!

Voicing a wonderfully daft children's animation.

Recording research updates about a rare form of cancer.

Podcast branding for one of the biggest football clubs in the world.

And today, we start recording my radio play 'Dad Bought Me A Grave.'

A fab way to round off the week.

Had a fun morning recording imaging stuff for a sports podcast. And I got to use a full on Manchester accent!! Can you guess which football club it was for?? Clue: Blue. 😂

I’ve spent the morning recording all sorts of percussive sounds in my kitchen. I’ve used cutlery, glassware, the sink, the oven door, a jar of lentils, a pizza cutter, knives, scissors, wooden chopping boards, chopsticks - all sorts of stuff.

These sounds will be incorporated into the soundtrack and soundscape for my play ‘Dad Bought Me A Grave.’ All the sounds are sourced from a domestic setting. I can’t wait to start making the music!

Huge thanks to my husband Dave who, as it happens, is a fantastic drummer.

WOOP! My radio play 'Dad Bought Me A Grave' is going into production.

The wonderful Laura Shavin has agreed to direct it and we're now assembling an extraordinary cast to bring the piece to life.

The play forms part of my PhD portfolio at the RNCM - Royal Northern College of Music, where my research explores how techniques from professional voice acting can inform contemporary compositional practice.

In this project, I'm wearing several hats. As well as writing and performing the play, I'll also be composing the soundtrack and soundscape, developing a sonic world that sits at the intersection of drama, music, voice and memory.

'Dad Bought Me A Grave' is a darkly funny and deeply personal story about grief, family, inheritance and the strange narratives we carry through our lives.

After spending so long writing it alone, hearing it begin to take shape through the voices of other performers feels both thrilling and slightly surreal.

More updates soon.

Today I'm sharing one of the most provocative pieces I've created for my PhD portfolio.

'Female Voiceover Showreel' explores the voices women are expected to perform, inhabit and trust.

But it's not a showreel. It's a composition.
