8 Ways to make your photos look professional
1. INTERESTING LIGHTING – NATURAL LIGHTING
It’s super difficult to find a decent smartphone photo that was taken with the flash on. They always make the photo look overexposed, changing the colours of the photos in a negative way and making the subject look washed out.
This is why you take advantage of the sun and the natural light you can find. You can even find natural light after dark as crazy as that sounds. The light from a lamppost for example, gives off a cool looking shot if it’s done right. Play around with the shadows and light that’s produced by your surroundings.
Sometimes you take a photo that looks perfect but it’s ruined by the bad lighting. Good thing you can get photo retouching services that can fix up any photo and any issue you might have with it.
2. PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR SURROUNDINGS
Look around!! Whenever you take a picture have a look at your surroundings and see where else you can take a picture. You’re already taking photos might aswell move around to get another background. You’d be surprised with the amount of ideas that turn into brilliant backdrops for your photos. So just have a look at around to see different potential backgrounds.
3. EMBRACE NEGATIVE SPACE
“Negative space” simply means the areas surrounding and in between the subject of an photo — and it can take your picture from a good picture to a very artistic looking picture.
It’s interesting how including a lot of empty space in a picture makes your subject stand out more and evoke a certain reaction. Negative space often looks like a large area of empty space such as the open sky, an empty field, a large wall, water. Make sure when you use negative space it’s an empty space. Not an area that has things that could distract the viewer like a crowd, or a forest. It needs to be plain. It’s that plain empty area that adds makes the subject stand out more.
You may also want to completely get rid of the background altogether and could use a background image removal service to help with that.
4. FIND DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES
Snapping pictures from an unexpected, unique angle become allot more memorable – It has the effect of creating an illusion of added height or depth with your subjects. It will make your pictures stand out since the most since most pictures are taken either straight ahead or birds eye.
Try taking a picture placing the camera as low as possible near the floor, try taking it at waist level, try taking it closer up, just play around and get creative.
5. AVOID ZOOMING IN
Stop being lazy and zooming into your subject when you’re a mile away. Move closer. Avoid the blurry and heavily pixelated image.
HOWEVER, don’t be doing this at the Zoo or if it’s in the way of oncoming traffic. Just take the picture at distance and retouch your photo after and crop. This way it won’t compromise the quality of the image.
6. TAKE CANDIDS
Staged can be great for the sake of memories – joyous times with your friends, family or the odd run-in with a celebrity. But often times taking a candid shot of people doing things can be far more interesting and memorable and give you something to talk about and adds further depth to the image and gives it a story. It’s a true snapshot of a moment in your life rather than the “Hey, everybody gather around”
Candid photos add more emotion and essence. Amongst the best ways to capture this type of picture is to just take a gazillion at a time. Go crazy with your camera and you’ll have more to choose from and can often find beautiful gems aswell as hilarious and embarrassing ones where you’re making a face you didn’t know you can. No? okay maybe that only happens to me.
7. CLEAN YOUR LENS
Okayyyy, this might sound like a throwaway but hear me out. If you’re taking a picture with your phone especially think about it. You’ve been grabbing it, touching it and don’t even realise your fingerprints are all over the lens. If it’s been in a bag, purse or even your pocket alongside something else then again the lens has been compromised. You could even take a picture, then clean your lens and take the same exact picture. Notice a difference? You’re welcome. You’re now a professional.
8. POST PICTURE EDIT
Okay, so you’ve taken all your pictures at crazy angles, with beautiful backgrounds and a spotless lens. But something is missing. Why do my pictures not look professional? Why do photographers pictures look so clear? I’ve done everything and my pictures don’t look as vibrant. How do i get my pictures to look professional? It’s simple. Post capture editing. You can use generic filters which could add some pop but if you truly want amazing looking photos you need to get professional help. A graphic design agency can help you with their photo retouching services or even if you have a plain background and only want to focus on the subject you can look for background image removal services.
