We’re currently designing Squarespace templates for salons.

Did you know, my mum opened a salon the year I was born? And has been in the industry her whole life.

Which inspired me to train as a beauty therapist 14 years ago.

Our skin is our biggest organ and we need to look after it. Not only does it make us feel good but looking after our skin is really good for our physical health too.

A website is a window to your salon. It gives you the opportunity to show what services you offer, who the people behind the treatments are, any offers and if you sell products.. a shop!

But we know custom web design can be a large investment for some. So why not a template?

Choosing a niche was quite the thing. It’s almost as if we were going with a feeling than a category! With a background of working IN and with brands who focus on hospitality, community building and wellness, we thought of what ties them together. 🌍

Creatives need inspo.

I’m always interested in knowing how creatives get their inspiration.

Here’s some ways I find mine

🍭 Walking around. If I step out of the house and go for a walk (no music, no podcast, no phone) I normally come back with a new idea. The shapes and people around us always gets my brain thinking

🌍 Travel. Stepping out of my normal routine, in a different place with different smells, noise, views

🌞 Chatting to others. Meeting new connections or catching up with loved ones is a great way to bounce around ideas and sometimes gives me a new perspective on things. Also if their your cheerleaders... it gives you a boost to just go with some things you’ve been mulling over

💻 Webinars, workshops, websites. Watching others in the design industry, learning from their experiences and processes and checking out some inspo sites like Pinterest, ilovegems, siteinspire, behance etc

🤫 Literally sitting in silence. Whether this is on a bench somewhere, meditating or in my garden having a tea. The best ideas come in a slow flow, nothing state. So carving time (which can be hard sometimes!) for nothing, is well worth it.

🚫 4 WEBSITE NO, NOS! 🚫

Ever landed on a website and thought WTF is happening here?!

4 things to NOT do when designing a website.

1️⃣ Confuse. The hero section (the first section on your homepage) should explain what your offering is. Whether through a tagline or cool imagery... when people land, they need to know what your website is about.

2️⃣ Make it too busy. Ever landed on a website and too much is happening? Popups, animations, unclear text over imagery... the list goes on. I’m all for maximalist chic vibes, but there’s a boundary to cross.

3️⃣ NO CTAs. What’s a person to do? What funnels are there across the site that get your people to do/see what you want them to see? Do you want them to view your latest projects? Your shop? Book a reservation? Sign up to the community? Outline clear call to actions and buttons, so your viewer knows what to do.

4️⃣ Branding is all over the shop. Your brand identity is everything when showing what your business does, who you’re about and your mission. You want your people to feel, see and understand what you’re about from the off. Make sure your design is cohesive throughout. It’s your time to shine baby!

Mini brand design for…

this&that by dale, a second hand pop up in Norfolk. 💼

This was super special, because it was for my mum 💫

We wanted to brighten up the usually bland antique warehouse vibe.

The brand had to stand out against the mountain of magical bits you find in these second hand shops. We’re loving the red. 🍎
