Stationery doesn’t have to be an afterthought, or something you rush to sort once everything else is in place. It can realistically be started at almost any point in the planning process.

If you want to start early, before a lot of the other details are settled, that can work really well. Working through the design process together with your stationer can actually help clarify what you want everything else for your wedding day to look like. Doing it this way round means the stationery becomes a reference point rather than a reflection of decisions already made, and it gets woven in to everything you plan. If you’re excited and eager to get started, you can realistically get in touch as soon as you have a date confirmed.

If you’d rather wait until more of the big pieces of your plan are in place, that works just as well. Having a clearer picture of the day does help keep everything coherent, particularly if your plans are still evolving. You’re not risking big style and design changes between your invitations and on the day items because your plans have changed if that’s something that matters to you.

The one important thing to factor in though is time. Either approach works well, just make sure you give yourselves the right space for us to give your invitations the care and attention they deserve, no matter where you are in your planning process.

I’ve been thinking lately back to this time last year, when we were deep into the final bits of planning and preparation for our own wedding and counting down the days to our big day.

Planning our wedding made me start to realise just how much waste the world of weddings generates. So, throughout the planning we’d been making an effort to think carefully about what we used and bought new, and about what happened to everything afterwards.

We made some good eco-conscious choices, such as choosing our gorgeous venue at Chester Zoo which had sustainability woven into everything they do, finding our wonderful florist who used flowers grown locally just down the road from our venue, hiring styling items rather than buying things new, and sourcing as many outfits as we could second hand. But we realised it’s difficult to get all of it right, and I was quite surprised the day after our wedding when I was handed back a big box of everything that was left over.

I learnt planning a wedding and considering sustainability is not about being perfect, but instead we should all be making careful and conscious choices with as much of it as we can, because those small choices can really add up.

All of this experience ended up guiding how I want to work with my couples when creating their stationery. So, everything I produce is as low-impact as possible and I’ll always work with couples to make sure they’re only choosing items they genuinely need for their plans, not just because industry pressure tells them they do.

Sometimes the constant need to be creative leaves me with a sense of restlessness, kind of like I have to force it. And I know I’m not alone in that.

Lately, I’ve been really paying attention to and prioritising the little things that my creative brain feeds off, to protect and nourish it. I know my best creative work always happens when I allow myself room to breathe.

So, this is my reminder to myself to keep focusing on what makes me happy, motivated, inspired, and creative.

Before I fell into the world of wedding stationery, I spent years working across commercial graphic design, adapting to briefs across different industries, for different audiences and different aesthetics. That background is what makes my bespoke stationery actually bespoke.

I don’t have a signature style I’m trying to fit couples into. When someone comes to me with a vision, I start from their brief, discovering their personalities, their day, and the feeling they want to create. The design always follows the couple, not the other way around.

Some weeks that means delicate watercolour wildflowers and a gatefold invitation. Others it’s bold illustrated botanicals or coastal minimalism with hand-drawn shells. Commercial graphic design experience gives you the ability to answer whatever brief comes your way rather than defaulting just to what feels familiar or what’s on trend in the industry.

Your invitation is your guests’ first impression of your wedding. The design is what they see (the colours, the typography, the overall feel), but the wording is what reinforces it. And the two working together is what really sets the tone for your day.

“You are very formally invited to the very informal wedding of” does a lot of work in this invitation to describe the day before a single guest has arrived. It’s a little cheeky, telling the guests exactly what kind of day to expect. The styling that followed for this suite, maximalist tables full of leopard print, cherries, and playing card place names, in a laid-back, alternative venue, worked so well because the invitation had already set the groundwork for establishing the vibe.

The language you choose, the formality or lack of it, can make such a difference to setting your guests expectations for your wedding. When the design and the wording work together, the whole day feels more intentional. Your guests know what they’re walking into before they’ve even arrived.

The wedding industry can be a wild place to navigate for couples, so my aim is to make sure your stationery experience is as smooth and special as it can possibly be.

I always want to make sure you get and pay for exactly what you need and nothing you don’t. So I won’t ever apologise for questioning you when you come to me with a list of ‘must have’ items you’ve found online. Good, thoughtful design doesn’t need to be covered in embellishments to be beautiful and effective, and most of those extras can’t be recycled either.

When we begin working together, I love hearing about every little detail of your day and will always get excited thinking of ways we can incorporate your personalities into your invitations. Asking lots and lots of questions to really get to know who you are and what you’re both planning for your wedding is just what I do.

I understand just how expensive weddings are so I’ll suggest alternative ideas to you where they’re relevant, to help you save where you can and cut back on unnecessary extras. That means I won’t apologise for keeping every quote I give you as straightforward and transparent as possible.

Once we’ve completed your designs, I’ll make sure you’re fully happy with everything and that you’ve checked your design proofs as thoroughly as you can to avoid expensive and wasteful reprints. I won’t ever apologise for pushing back on you to check, check, and check again.

Client feedback always means a lot, but this one is extra special 🥹

I first met Beth at a wedding professionals training and networking day back in November last year just as I had launched Thoughtfully Wild. We took part in a session to help us establish our ideal customer, and during this Beth mentioned that she thought her business branding was no longer reflecting the kind of clients she wanted to attract.

A few weeks later, she put her full trust in me and came on board as one of my early studio clients to help take her business to its next stage.

Together we worked through where her brand should be positioned and how she needed to present her business to speak directly to her ideal customers. The result of that process is a gorgeous new brand which now reflects where her business is going, and I can’t wait for her to share everything we created together.
