One of the reasons I love working with Active Luton is because they get it, simple as that.

They have a marketing team that has a lot on their plate and they recognised many years ago that finding an extension to their team without hiring works for them ➡️ that's where Big Voice Ltd comes in.

Corporate aka 'a real job' 😒

Been there done that and truth be told I only miss the benefits, paid holidays and commission.

I don't miss the bureaucracy, silos and politics that come with some roles.

Worked with some great people and some....errr...meh...others!

Then switched to going it alone 7 years ago, but the experience gained from those 'real job' roles has definitely shaped how I now get to work with some great companies as their on-demand hashtag team for when they need extra capacity or capabilities to ease the strain.

So as much as it pains me to say it, "thanks corporate world" 🫤

Most people judge by what they can see - the ad copy, the headline, the budget.

But the stuff that makes Google Ads work - you rarely notice it…

A few quiet settings behind the scenes do most of the heavy lifting (or the damage).

Match types control how closely Google matches your ad to a search.

- Too loose and you pay for crap clicks
- Too tight and you miss good ones

Intent matters:
- 'best accounting software' - most likely browsing
- 'xero pricing' - closer to buying

Treat them the same and Google happily charges you more.

Use negative keywords also - tell Google not to waste YOUR budget buy showing your ads on search terms that don't stack up.

Pay for clicks that you're more likely to - sounds simple but basic mistakes happen (e.g. bidding on 'landlord' - is this a pub landlord or property landlord?).

If Google Ads feels expensive or unpredictable, it’s usually the down to poor keyword research, account setup and ad strategy.

Tough gig selling classic cars using right?

In truth it's one of the first things that sprang to my mind when we were approached by Allon White Sports Cars Ltd to help them with social.

Fortunately they fully understood that wasn't the aim....albeit a result if it happens.

The ads will reach motoring enthusiasts who may not know the which Morgan or Lotus cars are for sale.

They will also educate these same audiences as to services they provide such as coach trimming or hood replacements.

Simply amplifying their expertise and professionalism to the right people will present opportunities to gain more clients.

You don't have to always use ads to sell but you can educate relevant people and build credibility in your sector rapidly and at scale.

What type of networker are you?

A. It's all about telling people what you do
B. You need to collect as many business cards as you can
C. You love a free pen - You're a serial merch collector

Well hopefully none of the above.

It's all about keeping busy collaborating while building genuine 'real' connections and on Friday that's what a lot of in did at Tim and Aruna's event 'Busy Collaborate'.

Great to see so many faces - far to many to mention.

As someone who owns a small business that provides services such as there are natural concerns and opportunities as AI changes the landscape.

Also factor in that platforms like now offer users the option to pay a monthly fee to go 'ad free' very much like Amazon TV etc.

This presents a challenge for companies like mine but I still think a huge part of what we do isn't just technical competence, it's a lot more.

People still prefer to work with other people and sometimes in person. This person is their 'go to' problem solver or trusted advisor on such matters and they simplify the complex.

Theses clients want a different kind of AI, they want AI (Accountability & Integrity).

Some of the features on these platform provide no transparency as to what actually works and what doesn't.

You just have to trust its right and worse still you cannot change it.

Clients want more reassurance and often want a different kind of AI = (Accurate Information).

AI has its place but so does accountability, effective communication, trust and transparency.

It may be quick and easy, but it gives you very little control over the things that actually make ads work.

When you boost a post, you’re mostly letting the platform decide who sees it, what “success” looks like, and how your budget gets spent.
