The St Leger meeting is about to get underway and the scene is set for what should be a huge few days.

I’ve got several strong tips going up on the Patreon today. Hopefully we can get this meeting off to a flying start.

There are a couple of particularly interesting big-priced handicap plots coming over the weekend. One for Saturday is a horse I expect to be a double figure price — hopefully 10/1+.

Then on Sunday we have something completely different. This is a horse I regard as absolutely top class and one of the BEST the trainer has ever had through his hands. If we can get somewhere around 4/1 or 5/1, I’ll be very happy

A good example today of why I’ve always believed transparency matters just as much when things don’t go our way.

Members were told about GOOD SPEED well before the gamble became public. He was available at huge prices this morning – as big as 28/1 with one firm – before being absolutely smashed into around 5/4 and 11/10.

By the time the Racing Post were reporting the gamble, members had already known about the horse for some time.

Unfortunately, despite all that market confidence, he let us down on the track. That is racing. A huge gamble doesn’t guarantee a winner and I’m not going to pretend otherwise.

The Patreon selections have enjoyed a very good few months overall, while the private bets have admittedly had a quieter week or two, with today’s heavily-backed selection another frustrating example.

I could quite easily only post screenshots when everything wins, but that has never been how I want to run the service. If I’m going to highlight the 7/2, 4/1 or 8/1 winners, I’ll also talk openly about the ones that were expected to run well and didn’t.

We just need the results on the track to match it – and they will come.
