It's , and our committee has shared some of their recent and all-time favourite reads 📚
📖The Postcard by Anne Berest is a powerful and moving story about family and the past's impact on the present. When Berest receives an anonymous postcard listing her ancestors killed in Auschwitz, she unravels a gripping mystery that leads to a deeper understanding of history and belonging. Thought-provoking and beautifully written, The Postcard is a must-read.
📖Leading the Listening Organisation: Creating Organisations that Flourish by Mike Poundsford, Dr Kevin Ruck, and Howard Krais has significantly helped incorporate listening into the qualitative measurement and evaluation of internal communication. The book emphasises the importance of listening to employees to better understand the reasons behind quantitative data.
📖Peter App's book about the Grenfell fire disaster, 'Show Me the Bodies', is brilliantly written. It charts a range of failures that occurred over many years while sharing the personal stories of those affected or who lost their lives in the tragedy. Everyone should read it to understand how communication and public relations must be part of the solution, not the problem.
📖Solve for Happy by Mo Gawdat is an incredible book inspired by the author's personal tragedy. It addresses the themes of joy, happiness, perspective, expectations, and more with simplicity and wisdom. The book is uplifting in every aspect, and you may feel compelled to highlight numerous passages!
📖Amanda Coleman's Crisis Communication Strategies is an essential handbook that addresses the entire crisis management process. Our very own committee member covers preparations and groundwork before a crisis occurs, offers guidance during the incident, and outlines steps for recovery. Must read for our fellow comms professionals!
📖In the words of member Adeeba Hussian, "The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides is a story you will not be able to put down – I promise. A fiction book recommendation for any PR practitioner who is ultimately a storyteller at heart. A thriller, psychological mystery, suspenseful thriller, slow but intense, I could not put it down! I can vouch it has a twist you won't guess – maybe by the last chapter, as I did. My two daughters and I were enthralled, and once we'd started, we had to finish it - and in a matter of days!"
Happy reading PR folks!
