Any good agency will ask their clients this question early doors.

We actually make this face when any marketing is running without an objective, a clear goal, or a strategy.

It's often that we speak with businesses that just run PPC, or other types of marketing, because 'it feels like the right thing to do'. However, when we unpack the business's objectives and goals, it's usually that PPC efforts and budget is misaligned, or is just one touchpoint in their customer's buying journey, where competitors have a more compelling marketing strategy.

PPC is one of the most common cases, as it's a lower funnel, lead generating marketing lever, meaning it's incredibly tempting to align all of a business's marketing budget and effort here (why do you think Google and Meta make so much money!). The reality is that good marketing considers the full buying journey of the customer and nurtures them from awareness, through to intent, and beyond to retention.

All of this aside though, if a business's goals are to 'make more money', it takes careful consideration to understand what the marketing objectives should be (such as get more leads from the website, gain more visibility online, increase returning visitors, increase market share etc). Only at this point should channels, such as PPC be assigned, where they have clear cut objectives and obvious and tangible KPIs.

Don't spend your time and budget blindly!
