Excited to share the brand new website for Earresistible!

Alex provides mobile ear wax removal across Nottingham, visiting clients at home for professional microsuction and ear irrigation, and now her online presence does justice to the care she offers.

The new site makes it easier to find out about her services, understand what to expect, and book. In addition to the web design, Alex opted for a branding photo session with me so that the site reflected her branding and personality, rather than relying on stock imagery that could belong to any business.

Marketing; you either love it or hate it, but every business needs it, and more often than not, you'll need to market across more than one channel.

I'm a firm believer that your website sits at the centre of all of it. For example, if I discover a business on social media, I'll check out their website. If they don't have one, or it doesn't match their social media branding, I'm less confident about them.

And if I find a business through Google, I'll check out their social media to see how current they are. It works both ways but my website has always been the one I pay the most attention to, and I choose the other channels selectively to work alongside it.

It's something I look at with every client, whether I'm building their website or working on their SEO, and all 13 are organic so no paid ads required.

Why are your competitors showing up on Google and you're not?

How many times have you Googled your own service and wondered why a competitor is sitting at the top of page 1 when their website is mediocre?

The questions that start to circulate in your head ... what are they doing that I'm not, should I change my pricing, should I be offering something else, am I good enough ... and the list goes on.

But the reason your competitors are above you on Google is simply that they've made it easier for Google to find them.

And the most common issue I find with Nottingham businesses is a website built to look good but not built to be found, and not designed with the customer's journey in mind.

For years, SEO has been my introverted way of creating a presence online. I'll hesitate before posting on social media, but I'll write a 1,200-word blog post without thinking twice.

That's because, for me, SEO removes the pressure to perform. You create your content, and it keeps working. There are no instant reactions to wait for, just content that keeps working long after you've posted it.

When I designed my first photography website back in 2008, I thought that was it. Job done. Everyone would know who I was and where to find me.

I soon realised that’s not how it worked. I was fortunate to be introduced to SEO by someone in the photography industry who had a background in IT and, more importantly, SEO.

Through training and working on a few sites of my own, I spent time learning how to optimise my websites. At a time when most people thought the only way to get on Google was to pay for ads, I was blogging and optimising my site pretty regularly to improve performance.

It was definitely easier in those days - fewer people knew about SEO and there was far less competition. But I’ve always invested time in my website, kept up to date with algorithm changes, and it’s always paid off.

Knowing that visibility is everything, Spotlight Lane is where I indulge in SEO and make websites look good for businesses who want to show up online.
