South Hams Resistance

South Hams Resistance Standing up for our villages. Saying no to Plymouth’s land grab. We are part of Devon, not Plymouth.

Let's make sure our voice is heard and we get the best for us, not for them.

Well, who would have expected this huh! They can't manage an election, but they think they can steal our villages.

Well, who would have expected this huh! They can't manage an election, but they think they can steal our villages.

A government letter has put Plymouth on a list of councils whose May 2026 elections could be postponed. If that happens, we won’t get a say until 2027.

More Labour lies. I guess they'll blame the OBR.

It all feels like a bad dream 🤦‍♂️

"Mega councils, with populations of half a million people or more, could be imposed on areas when there's no independent, up-to-date evidence to justify councils of this size, and many large councils created previously are struggling financially."

The government relied on a report by a lobbyist group that now says reorganisation could make no savings.

Wonder if we'll get a special meeting? 🤞🤞🤞https://www.facebook.com/share/p/19Y7YYbPxz/?mibextid=wwXIfr

🚨 Conservative Pressure Secures Council Meeting on Leicester City Expansion Plans 🚨

We’ve been calling for urgent action – and now we’ve got it.

An extraordinary meeting of Harborough District Council will take place on Monday 8th September to discuss the City Mayor’s proposal to expand Leicester’s boundaries into parts of our district. This meeting is only happening because Conservative councillors demanded it – we pushed for it, and now the Council must respond.

Residents are rightly concerned about what's being discussed behind closed doors. Until now, councillors have had no chance to publicly scrutinise these plans. That changes on 8th September.

We’ll continue standing up for our communities and fighting to protect the future of Harborough.

FOR SHAUGH PRIOR PARISH COUNCIL

LOCAL GOVERNMENT REORGANISATION -

Engagement Events Update - IMPORTANT!

AN LGR QUESTION AND ANSWER SESSION HAS BEEN ARRANGED AT:SHAUGH PRIOR VILLAGE HALL ON THE 9TH SEPTEMBER 2025 FROM 18:00 TO 20:00.

Please attend this very important meeting as our Parish is one of the 13 areas potentially impacted by Plymouth City Councils Growth Area Plan. This Parish Engagement session has been enabled to include as many residents as possible to attend.

Come along and have your questions answered; Listen to the Proposals put forward.

A joint outline proposal (known as an interim plan) has been submitted on behalf of all the Devon District Councils, except Exeter. The proposal has also been included as one of several options submitted by both Torbay Council and Devon County Council.

Known as the 1-4-5 plan, it proposes:

• Retaining Plymouth as a unitary authority.

• A unitary combining the South Hams, Teignbridge and West Devon areas with Torbay.

• A unitary including East, Mid, N orth Devon, Torridge and Exeter.

NOTE: This has been copied from the Shaugh Prior Group as it can't be shared. It's not our text, we just want to make sure local people are aware.

🚫 Say NO to Plymouth’s land grab! 🚫

The Labour Government is pressing ahead with local government reorganisation to create more single tier unitary authorities across the country. Plymouth City Council's solution is to swallow up 13 parishes in the South Hams - a completely unnecessary move that ignores the wishes of local residents.

Devon’s District Councils have listened and come up with another way forward that keeps South Hams out of Plymouth which I support.

I have launched a petition to give you a say and stop Plymouth's land grab. With your support, I will take it to Parliament next month and force Labour Ministers to respond.
