The RNLI has increased security measures after staff and volunteers faced online and in-person abuse, threats, and harassment linked to their role in rescuing people crossing the English Channel. Volunteers have reportedly been advised not to wear RNLI-branded clothing in some circumstances, and police and private security have been involved around locations including the RNLI’s headquarters in Poole.

Below is our advice for the public around online misinformation and bullying:
• Do not share allegations, images or posts about individuals or organisations unless you have checked them against a reliable source.
• Treat emotionally charged content and claims that appear designed to provoke anger with caution.
• Do not join online pile-ons, publish personal information or encourage others to confront staff or volunteers.
• Report threats, targeted harassment and abusive content to the platform; report credible threats to the police.
• Keep screenshots, URLs, usernames and timestamps if you need to make a report.
• Remember that reposting false claims can amplify harm even when you did not create the original content.

Autumn is my favourite time of year and I'm starting this September off strong with a wide variety of events!

Beginning this week with a trip to Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London for a top surgery follow up appointment, I'll be ready to start my studies with The Open University with module websites going live.

Next week The Outsiders Project starts up again at TOSH. I’ll also be attending two volunteer events; an in person IAG meeting for Dorset Police and a Neighbourhood Watch online session hosted by Age UK.

To finish off the month, I’ll be receiving training at a Deepfake AI Workshop run by Cyberhood Watch and Deep Truth Project.

Initially I was going to take just business-related modules during my degree but after taking some time to re-evaluate, I’ve realised that there's no point in taking subjects I think employers and clients will want to see and focus instead on the topics I'm actually passionate about! This October I'll finally be taking my first Creative Writing module with The Open University and intend to follow it up with the Level 3 Advanced Creative Writing module when the time comes! I can't wait to get stuck in, especially as I work towards getting more of my own works published in the coming year...
