Huge congratulations again to Helen's Pampered Hounds Dog Grooming which was shortlisted for an award at the Lancashire Business Awards last night.

They were up against some stiff competition and, whilst they didn't come away with the award in the end, they're still absolute winners in our eyes.

An amazing local business, loved by people and pups alike! 🐶🐾

📺 BBC Rip Off Britain – The devastating effect of probate delays

It was lovely to see a project we worked on for Jurit LLP, go live today, as they appeared on BBC One's Rip Off Britain.

Partner, Jo Summers, spoke about the issue of probate delays which continues to have a devastating effect on bereaved families.

Since 2021, there has been a 65% increase in probate taking more than a year to be granted, with people reporting endless telephone waiting times, issues with paperwork being misfiled, or worse, completely lost.

Sadly, this happens all too often and whilst most applications take around eight weeks to process, paper applications can take much longer. The Probate Registry says up to 16 weeks but if often takes considerably longer.

On the programme, hosted by Gloria Hunniford and Julia Somerville, Georgina Smith from Essex spoke about the lengthy, costly and emotionally draining effect of the wait for probate to be granted on her father’s estate.

It wasn’t until 21 months after his death that she could even start the application for probate, following a host of delays and lost applications.

Jo, who is a partner specialising in Private Wealth & Tax, discusses more about the probate process during the interview, and some of the ways to mitigate potential delays – from applying for a ‘Grant on Credit’ from HM Revenue & Customs if there are insufficient funds to pay the inheritance tax bill, to ownership of properties in joint names to avoid probate altogether.

💡How to wear the tartan trend this season

If you are wondering how to style tartan this AW, as the fabric is back on trend, then look no further than Glencroft for advice!

A family-run countrywear brand based in the Yorkshire Dales, Glencroft specialises in scarves and throws in tartan, plaid check patterns, amongst other British Wool, sheepskin and tweed apparel.

Owner, Edward Sexton, commented:

“If you want to get a bit of colour into your look but avoid contemporary block and check patterns, a tartan scarf can be a classic way to achieve this.

"It doesn't just have to be the traditional bright reds and blues, something like Grey Thomson is a subtle tartan that will add some colour to a winter theme.

“And let's not forget that Burberry have been using their variation of the Camel Thomson tartan for decades - those in the know, wear the gorgeous Camel Stewart tartan to look a little bit different.

“Our Glencroft green plaid has been our best-selling scarf for the past decade. It's a plaid rather than an official tartan, but you still get the similar pattern in a classic country green. Pair it with a wax jacket and you’re ready to ramble in style.”

Great to get some more nationals coverage for Glencroft today.

This time in The Independent following a quick turn around on some comments for a piece they were doing on the best autumn and winter woollens.

If you are wondering why to choose wool (or even better, British Wool), then have a read.

It has so many natural qualities, it's completely sustainable and biodegradable and is actually pretty easy to care for too.

It is made up of hygroscopic fibres, which is a complicated way of saying that wool is super absorbent. As a result, it soaks up sweat, removing it from the skin’s surface helping to keep your skin dry, which discourages bacterial growth and the smells associated with it.

And if you buy from a company like Glencroft, which makes its own wool from the fleece of sheep on the hills around them, then you can ensure the traceability of your product from farm to yarn too.

With wool month taking place from the 3rd-30th October, here’s why you should avoid synthetics and opt for the natural fibre.
