Well it's -5 on the 5th of January and while it could definitely be described as a winter wonderland, it's also pretty hard work when you have horses!

Chipping away at the ice on the water buckets (and doing it all again an hour later as they're freezing again fast!); changes to routine - with less exercise (frozen arena, slippery surfaces) and more time indoors or undercover, mean we all have to adapt - and sometimes that means our horses diet has to adapt too.

Winter is a great time to reassess what you're feeding and a great opportunity to get on top of your horses health and vitality, ahead of the onset of 'the itch'.

You can read what we've been up to in my latest blog.

What are you doing to help your itchy horses stay healthy this winter?

With itchy horses, all you can do is your best.

So this week, as I've been moving fields I'm trialing adding Quercetin, Cinnamon and Echinacea to C's diet to help keen him happy and healthy, and right this moment, to reduce his mast cell response to new grazing.

Normally moving to fresh grass rapidly results in a VERY itchy horse. When I whip the rug off, I would expect to see scuff marks where he has been rubbing against fencing or on the ground to try and get some relief, and he would be itching his nose/face against the wall. Four days in from a field move, there's nothing!

Why?

My latest blog explains more. See link in comments!

Unpacking my delivery from Horse Health Solutions.

I add chamomile flowers to C's diet daily to support gut health, but as we transition to winter grazing I'm looking to add in a few extra anti-oxidants to ensure he we give him the best chance of staying happy and healthy in the coming months.

Cinnamon is recognised as an anti-inflammatory, an antioxidant, and is believed to offer digestive benefits, particularly helping horses with metabolic conditions such as EMS and ID, manage their sugar levels.

Research is somewhat limited for horses, but you may find these links helpful:

Thought it was time I gave my Facebook and Insta pages a new purpose!

Over the summer I've been working on a new website: Nurture Equestrian.

It's been a really cathartic process, helping me track my journey with an incredibly itchy horse. No prizes for getting who that is! 🙈

I'm hoping my blog and research can help others suffering with the same challenge in picking through the minefield of information and advice that's available online.

My latest blog focuses on the role of mast cells in triggering histamines. See link in comments if you fancy a read!

Last week I had the opportunity to meet a brilliant bunch of marketing pros, courtesy of the wonderful Raimonda Richardson at Force4Events - Launch Marketing Services with Rai Richardson and Mums in Marketing

Our very first MiMs Retreat gave us all permission to pause, take a step back and view our own businesses from a very different perspective. So often we're so 'knee deep' in delivery, we forget how far we've come and where we actually want to go!

Fueled by coffee and some rather lovely macarons, I've rediscovered a passion I thought I'd lost; have the germ of an idea I can nurture into a new business offering, and found the most supportive, intelligent and skillful bunch of businesswomen I could possibly wish to know.

2024 here we come!

The start of a new year is a great time to look back and take pride in everything we achieved in 2021, and to look forward - with anticipation - to what 2022 will bring.

Last year was a bumper one for . Not only did our client roster grow substantially, taking us into new sectors such as law, engineering and animal physiotherapy - we expanded our virtual team too.

None of this amazing work would have been possible without the support, talent and sheer graft of graphic designers Daz Marks of Depart Creative and Rachael Simcox; diligence and sheer marketing savvy of Christie Lord and the ninja digital marketing skills of Ruth Jeffrey - thank you all so much!

We've also loved working with the talented Steve Hicks of Squib Photography - and Hayley Watkins of Hayley Watkins Photography

Thanks too to Hayley for this picture - taken of me presenting to The Legal Director team at their December Quarterly Meeting - and proving the point that video is much more forgiving than stills! Thank goodness I don't take myself too seriously!

Happy New Year everyone and let's look forward to an exciting, challenging and creative 2022....
