💛3 reasons to set a digital marketing strategy...

A recent study found that 47% of businesses don't have a digital marketing strategy, but they all do digital marketing! Here are 3 reasons why setting a digital marketing strategy is key to small business success!

💛Have you been the victim of a marketing spell?

You know the story, you see an advert for something you never wanted or needed, but you were drawn in to purchase! That is the result of marketing tactics working their magic on you!

For me, the definition of marketing is to fulfill the customer's want or need, so 'tricking' people into a purchase is not something that sits right with me. When I first studied marketing back in 2013, and I realised the psychology that was involved, I questioned whether marketing was moral or not! But now that I understand it fully I know that there is a right way to do it and a wrong way.

That's why I always make sure my marketing is honest. I believe in 'Honest Marketing' (yes, you read that term here first!), presenting a brand as its authentic self and always communicating with its customers with honesty and integrity.

So back to the question. Have you ever been the victim of a marketing spell? I know I have a few times over the years! Share your thoughts below.

💛Let's talk... Social Media Marketing

Social media marketing has become an essential part of any successful marketing strategy. With billions of people using social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn, it's no wonder why businesses are using these channels to reach their target audience.

One of the biggest advantages of social media marketing for small businesses is the ability to connect with customers on a personal level. By engaging with your followers through comments, direct messages, and live videos, you can build a loyal community that trusts your brand.

However, social media marketing can also be a double-edged sword if not executed properly. Poorly timed posts or insensitive content can damage a brand's reputation and alienate customers. That's why it's important to have a solid strategy in place and to always prioritize authenticity and transparency.

Overall, social media marketing can be a powerful tool for businesses to connect with customers, increase brand awareness, and drive sales. With the right approach, businesses can leverage these platforms to achieve their marketing goals and stay ahead of the competition.

🧡How much do you spend on your small business marketing?

I am intrigued to know so please comment below! You will see a lot of figures thrown around with regards to how much a small business should spend on its marketing. This is usually something between 5% and 20% of the business turnover. It's likely to be higher for new businesses, whereas more established enterprises can get away with spending a little less.

So a small business turning over £1000 a month should be spending between £50-£200 a month, whereas a small business turning over £5000 a month should be spending between £250-£1000 a month. But what does marketing spending look like for small businesses? It can cover a vast array of areas including:

🧡Employing someone to create a marketing strategy or complete a brand overhaul.
🧡Having someone manage your social media pages or email marketing on a weekly or monthly basis.
🧡Spending money on advertising through Google Ads or Facebook Ads for example.
🧡Invest in events to bring in new customers or reward loyal customers.
🧡Have someone design an all-singing-all-dancing website!

And I've only scratched the surface! When setting a budget for marketing, make sure you consider all the options and choose a tactic that is going to help you achieve your specific business goals.

Comment below and share what percentage of your monthly turnover you spend on marketing and what you do with it! 😊

Let's talk... Customer Personas.

This is a perfect example of a marketing tactic that large organisations implement, but smaller businesses don't tend to adopt. But there's a reason why they create customer personas, it's because they work! So what is a customer persona and how can we use it to help with small biz marketing?

A customer persona is a semi-fictional representation of a brand’s ideal customer based on market research and real data. It is a tool that helps brands understand their customers better by creating a detailed profile of their target audience. Creating a customer persona involves conducting research on your current customers, identifying patterns and commonalities between customers, and creating an in-depth profile based on the similarities.

Even though customer personas can take a little time to create, it's worth it for the benefits. They improve targeting which can help you reach the right people with the right message at the right time. This actually saves you money in the long run as you don't waste spending on marketing efforts that don't work. Furthermore, by understanding your customers better and targeting them more effectively, you can increase sales and revenue.

So why not give customer persona creation a go! If you feel it's a task you need some help with, book a strategy session with me and I can create one for you. Visit www.neonmarketing.uk/booking/ to book!

Looking for a secret weapon to boost your small business marketing efforts? Say hello to AI, your new best friend!

Artificial intelligence (AI) is the ability of machines to perform tasks that would normally require human intelligence, such as visual perception, speech recognition, and decision-making. But did you know that AI has become really useful when marketing your business? As a marketer, there are three distinct ways that AI is helping me to perform daily tasks which increases my productivity.

Firstly, AI has become a brilliant tool for content generation, especially long-form content such as blogs. It has allowed me to generate content for industries that I might not be that familiar with, allowing me to effectively communicate as an expert in a wide range of sectors.

Secondly, AI assists me in the creation of graphic designs. When it comes to any design tasks I need to complete, Canva is my go-to. Canva’s AI tools can save time and effort by suggesting design templates based on my preferences and past designs. It also includes a background remover, color palette generator, and font pairing suggestions!

Finally, as someone who posts a LOT of content, it can be difficult to come up with captivating captions and relevant hashtags day in and day out. But luckily for me, Hootsuite provides a free AI-powered caption generator! You simply select a style or tone of language that suits your brand, a description of the image the caption will be linked to, and a few keywords!

So, will you be using AI to assist you with your marketing tasks now? Comment below and let me know how it can help you with your small business marketing!

Would you like to see real results transpire from your marketing efforts? Of course you would! That's why we do it right! But you need 3 things to achieve marketing results...

1. You need to set a goal
2. You need to take action
3. You need a way to track your goal to know if you've reached it!

Sounds simple right. But you would be surprised how many small businesses are not setting goals for their marketing, and therefore are not achieving any kind of results.

I've worked in small business marketing for a while now and I have achieved some amazing results such as creating social media posts with an organic reach of 1.2K, and creating email campaigns with an open rate of 36% (when the industry average was 18%). None of these results could have been achieved without knowing what the goal was and putting in the action to achieve it.

If you need help with goal setting, marketing strategy, or achieving marketing results, take a look at my website to find out how I can assist:
