The wait is finally over... England's World Cup campaign starts!⚽🏆

As Chief Happiness Officer at Aysgarth Services, I'll be cheering on the Three Lions from my favourite spot in the office (and keeping a close eye out for any dropped snacks! 🦴).

💡Did you know… the concept of the “weekend” is relatively modern?

In the early 1800s, most people worked a six-day week, often right through Saturday evening.

One of the key changes happened in industrial areas such as Lancashire, where mill owners began allowing workers Saturday afternoon off. Over time, finishing earlier on Saturdays became more common, and people began referring to this time as the “week end” — the break at the end of the working week.

Eventually, it became one word… weekend — something we all look forward to today.

A nice reminder that many of the things we now take for granted started as small improvements over time.
