Over the last week I have experienced poor customer service.
And I don't like it.
I don’t like it because it's unprofessional, but, most of all, there is a simple solution to make sure it does not happen.
In a world where retaining and looking after customers is JUST as important as getting new ones, customer service can be a simple process if handled properly.
Too many time we ask questions about delivery, returns, sales etc, whatever the problem, and too many times it seems people will find out that nothing can be done immediately. So, they do or say nothing.
It is so much easier, and much more professional, to contact the person, let them know it will happen the next day or a certain time period, and let them leave it for that day. Not being contacted with an update, good or bad, is infuriating.
So, if you say we will get back to you, please do it. Even if the news isn’t good. Doing nothing will open the door for competition to act differently. And losing clients because of this is like getting a yellow card for kicking the ball away in football. Ridiculous.
In short, if you say it will be investigated, get back in touch even if nothing can be done that day. We love closure and updates.
